Know Your Nuns - Pro-life v Pro-abortion Dominican Edition

1st we have a real Dominican from the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. Like all her fellow Domincans in her convent, she is faithful to the Catholic Magisterium, wears a habit & stands up for the unborn.
Next we have a dissident from the infamous Sinsinawa Dominicans that I have reported on several times before. She does not wear a habit, has worked as an abortion clinic escort, until I helped force her to stop, & has spoken out in favor of gay marriage. In short, like most of her fellow Sinsinawa Dominicans, she is doing her best to undermine the Catholic Magisterial teachings & lead souls to Hell.

Pro-life Dominican:

Sr. Philip John (Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist) joins a group of Pro Lifers in NH to pray the rosary before an abortion clinic as part of the recent "40 Days for Life" campaign.

Pro-abortion Dominican:

(Sinsinawa Dominican)

The True Sprirtual Daughters of St. Scholastica.

Today is the feast of St Scholastica.

She was the twin sister of St. Benedict, who wrote the Rule that monks & nuns of the various Benedictine orders have followed since the 6th Century AD.
Scholastica was the abbess of the 1st monastery for women. She deeply loved the Lord, so much so, that she got God to overrule her brother when he wanted to go back to his monastery rather than stay & continue their holy conversation. Benedict said no, she prayed & God sent a thunderstorm so he couldn't leave.
Anyhow, as a public service, here are some examples of her true daughters & those who are anything but because of their dissent & promotion of heresy.

Authentic Daughter:

Rev Mother Delores Hart Prioress of Abbey of Regina Laudis, left a movie career to become a contemplative Benedictine. She is also the only nun who currently has voting rights for the Oscars.

Faux Benedictine:

Sr. Joan Chittister, promotes dissent from authentic Catholic teaching, women's ordination & wrote a commentary on the Rule of St Benedict that twists it to justify her heretical dissent.

Real Daughters:

Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles @ the Priory of Our Lady of Ephesus. They raise the funds to support their monastery through making vestments, altar linens for Mass, among other items. They have also made 3 recordings of the music sung at the Priory. But their main mission is to offer their in prayer & sacrifice for priests.

Frauds:

These 3 women are the total number of women who claim to be Benedictines at Holy Wisdom Monastery in Madison. The one on the left isn't even a Catholic. As you can see from the picture below, the gang ships in womynpriests because Bishop Morlino has banned all priests of the diocese from saying Mass there due to their manifest promotion of dissent like women's ordination & New Age heresy.

The "reflection" at their Ash Wednesday liturgy will be given by Simone Campbell SSS. Campbell is the executive director of NETWORK, a group that has been criticized by the Vatican. Campbell also led the Nuns on the Bus who supported pro-abortion Obama in the past election.
I could give you many other examples, but I think you are now fully equipped to tell the difference between a woman who is truly a Spiritual Daughter of St. Scholastica & who claim they are but reject everything she believed in & stood for.

A Tale of 2 Dominican Convents (Actually 3)

The other day I read an article in the TH about the Sinsinawa Dominicans having 2 women make their professions, 1 the 1st, 1 the final. (Sisters to make profession with Sinsinawa Dominicans) I found this interesting in comparison to the recent discussion I had about the Nashville Domincans from the mother of 1 of them. She was talking about the large class of postulants. Last year they had 23 new postulants. So why the big difference? Simple, 1 group is faithful to the Magesterium & wears the habit. the other group is into radical feminism, rejects the Magesterium & avoids the habit like the plague.
Naturally, it is the Nashville Dominicans (aka Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia) that are having the abundance of vocations. They are faithful to the teachings of the Church. They are strongly pro-life. As I said, they wear the habit. They have a deep devotion to the Eucharist as well. They are a contemplitive/active order that operates many schools where they pass on the faith that they uphold. They are a member of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious (the good gals).
You may remember the Sinsinawa Dominicans from my recent posts on them. They are anything but faithful to the Magesterium. Among their members is the infamous Sr. Donna who spent several years working as an escort at an abortion clinic. They supported ObamaCare with its funding of abortion, they are into radical feminism as well as other New Age practices. Here is a "New Age" prayer they have posted on their website that gives a prime example of the spirituality they promote:

Fire of love, burn in our hearts.
We walk together in mystery into
an unknown future
Breathe in us; warm us; transform
• our minds
• our hearts
• our lives
So that one with
• all our sisters and brothers,
• all creation
We become intentional co-creators
of a universe of
Justice, Peace, and Love.
We ask you this through Christ. Amen.
The oneness with all creation that it refers to is also known as the heresy of monism. Also notice how impersonal they prayer is. It is directed toward the "fire of love". I suppose you could say they are adressing the Holy Spirit, but then why not say so? & notice that they leave out Jesus' name. They don't even say "the Christ". They totally avoid any reference to the maleness of Jesus. & definitely now way do they make Him Lord either. Again, their idea of us being co-creator is the "New Age" idea of us being gods who are equal to God.
Another article by 1 of the sisters promotes gnosticism. It could also be something right out of Dan Brown's DaVinci Code in its view of the Catholic Church.
& lest I forght, they are a part of the infamous dissident Leadership Council of Women Religious who are being investigated by the Vatican for their undemining Catholic teaching.
Then there is 1 other group of good Dominicans that I would like to mention that also shows the diference when you are a true "bride of Christ". They are the Ann Arbor Dominicans (aka Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist). They just had 11 postulants get their habits & new names.
So let's review for the big test.
Faithful, wear habits = plenty of vocations
Dissident, radical feminist, no habits = few to no vocations
________________
Note: I have done a couple Nuns With Good Habits articles on both the Nashville & Ann Arbor Dominicans.

Know Your Nuns - The Fruit of Dissent Edition

The last couple days I have put up posts about Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) leaders who signed on to the NETWORK letter endorsing the Senate Health Care bill that includes public funding. This letter is a public proclamation of their dissent from authentic Catholic teaching. 1 of those signers was Prioress Patricia Mulcahey OP of the Sinsinawa Dominicans.
Interestingly enough, as all this was coming down I got a letter from The Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of Saint Cecilia aka the Nashville Dominicans. The letter was a fundraiser for their current needs. The letter mentions the fact that last year they had 23 young women enter the community. It also mentioned that 8 women took their final vows. The Congregation currently has 250 sisters.
These sisters are faithful to the magesterium. Contrast that to the Sinsinawa Dominicans. While they may currently have 600 sisters the number joining is greatly outnumbered by those dying. According to their website they had 2 professions in 2009, 1 in 2008 & 2 in 2007. They have "hopefully" (their word) 1 for this year. It is interesting to note that unlike the Nashville Dominicans & the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist they do NOT have full statistics about the number of vocations they are getting. Why? Is it because of the fact that they aren't having the success that the tradition, faithful to the magesterium Dominicans are having in attracting vocations?
Now on to the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in Ann Arbor, MI who were recently featured on Oprah. Like the Nashville Dominicans they are faithful to the magesterium & wear the habit. According to their website over the last year "Sixteen Postulants entered the community in August, bringing our total number to 98, Five Sisters professed perpetual vows, nine Sisters professed first vows, and nine Sisters received the Holy Habit of Saint Dominic." (As an aside, they have a link on their homepage to the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious (CMSWR). They ask people to visit their website at www.cmswr.org for a statement on the CMSWR position on the current health reform legislation.)
The Domincans were founded to battle heresy & promote authentic Catholic teaching, not undermine it by promotimg heresy. Sadly, the Sinsinawa Dominicans are betraying their charism.
We need to pray that the Sinsinawa Dominicans return to their authenic Domincan charism. In the meantime if you are looking for true Dominicans that are faithful to their founder, the Nashville & Ann Arbor groups definitely fit the bill.

HLI Winter 2010 Millstone Award Winner Is No Surprize

esp to anyone who regular reads this blog.
I got my Winter 2010 issue of Human Life International's Front Lines. When I opened it & saw who had won the latest Millstone Award, I was not surprized in the least. She definitely deserves it, sadly.
As I am sure some of you may know who I am refering to, but for those who don't, the award was given to Sr. Donna Quinn, O.P. (l) Yes that Sr. Donna, the abortion mill escort that I have written several posts about.
For those who are not familiar with my posts let me share a few of the reasons HLI gave for deserving the Millstone. So what are some of the things she has done to undermine the teachings of the Church that brought her to this point?
In 1974 she founded & directed Chicago Catholic Women. (It disolved in 2000). In 1976 she was a co-founder of the Women's Ordination Conference. In 1983 she helped found WomenChurch Convergance. She is also a leader of the National Coalition of American Nuns. By now I am sure you have figured out these are all dissenting groups. The have vocally opposed the Church's teachings on every aspect of sexual morality, abortion, homosexuality, contraception & the male priesthood.
But she is probably most infamous for her many years of acting as an escort at a local abortion mill. & when the scandal began to get widespread coverage her prioress, Sr. Patricia Mulcahey defended her actions saying "if the protestors were not abusive, she would not be there." Finally the outcry became such that Sr. Patricia was forced to make her quit. LifeSiteNews played a huge role in bringing it to light. & my own speaking up locally earned me the wrath of many members of the Sinsinawa Dominicans (Click on Sinsinawa Dominicans below for the story of my dealings.) As HLI points out (as I have as well) there is emphasis on a "feminist vision of inclusivity" among other things but nothing about abortion. Sadly, she is not the exception but the rule for the members of the Sinsinawa Dominicans.
She uses the lie of physical violence by pro-lifers to justify her escort work. Her actions, however show that for the decption it is. She has signed statements in support of abortion in the UN's Millenium Development Goals. Sh has supported abortion in ObamaCare & attended several pro-abortion marched in DC. & while she expressed outrage at the murder of abortionist George Tiller she didn't say a single word about the murder of pro-lifer Jim Poullion. (No surpize as it would prove her claims to be the lie they are.)
Her bio lists her favorite causes as "reproductive choice, equal rights, lesbian and gay irhts, and different faith traditions.' Her favorite buttons & bumper stickers include "Authentic Pro-Choice Catholic;" "I'm Poped Out;" "Keep Abortion Safe and Legal;" & (as HLI rightly calls it) the ever ridiculous "Ordain Women or Stop Baptizing Them." She describes herself thus: "I am a feminist, Chicagoan, Irish, Catholic White Sox fan---in that order." HLI says that "for someone who once said 'All organized religions are immoral in their gender discriminations (sic),' that sounds about right." While I basicly agree, I am surprized she puts Catholic before White Sox fan.
HLI points out that of all 20 Millstone Award recipients "nobody has more directly assisted in abortion" & she has "caused more grave damage to the women's religious orders in the United States than any other single person." Because of the untold number of women religious who left their orders & children who have lost their faith by her actins, she deserves this award, as HLI says many thousand times over. But they can only give her 1. (May I humbly suggest they send 1 to the prioress, Sr. Patricia as well as several others for the others at Sinsinawa who are behind what she is doing.)
As HLI points out "she desperately needs our prayers. May she come to realize the errors of her ways and become a great force for good." To that prayer I add my "AMEN!"
She joins such infamous past recipents as Fr. Richard McBrien (only 2 time winner), Fr. Robert Drinan SJ, Fr. Charles Curran, Fr. John I. Jenkins CSC, & Obama Catholics.

Know Your Nuns - Dominicans Dissing & Dominicans Respecting the BVM Edition

On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, 8 December 2009, 2 events happenned involving Dominican nuns. The 1st event I put up a post about yesterday. It involve the infamous Sr. Donna Quinn. (below left in what passes for her idea of a habit)

You will remember that Sr. Donna recently had attention drawn to her for her working as an escort at an abortion clinic. She has also been very outspoken in her support of abortion & other positions in dissent with Catholic teaching. On Tuesday, after the defeat of the Nelson/Hatch/Casey amendment (restricting abortion funding) in the Senate, she sent out a letter thanking those who voiced their opposition to the amendment for helping to defeat it. As if that was not bad enough, she noted that it happenned on the Feast of the immaculate Conception & called it providential. Her reason? "Mary who by her assent, . . . was one of the first women in the New Testament to express Choice.”

In other words, she commits heresy & blasphemy in 1 sentance by proclaiming the Blessed Virgin Mary is pro-abortion since that is what the choice Sr. Donna claims Mary is in favor of. (Sr. Donna is a part of the Sinsinawa Dominicans who are a hotbed of dissent & heresy as I have pointed out before.
Compare that to the following from a different Dominican monastery. This is from the blog for the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary in Summit, NJ. On Tuesday 1 of the sisters went from the postulancy to the novitiate. At that point she received a new name as well. The title of the post says it all: OUR LADY GIVES US A NEW NOVICE!
Here is a picture of Sr. Mary Magadalene of the Immaculate Conception from that blog. She is standing in front of a statue of Mary in their refectory. (Follow the link for more pictures incluing 1 of Sr. Magdalene with the 5 others in various stages of the novitiate along with novice master, Sr. Mary Catharine.)

As I said before, the title says it all. They know that the Blessed Virgin is pro-life & is blessing their efforts with new members. This group of Dominicans would never be caught wearing wearing what Sr. Donna has on, they prefer more traditional habits. Nor would they help women to get an abortion. Since they are a cloistered contemplative order they would be praying for those who are reaching out to those women so that they would convince the woman not to have an abortion.
& while the Sinsinawa Domincans do mention the founder, St. Dominic & his founding of the 1st community of women in Prouilhe , it is interesting that they totally ignore where St. Dominic drew these women from. But Our Lady of the Rosary Monastery has no qualms about stating they were a group of women converts from the Albigensian heresy. But given that the Sinsinawa Dominicans prefer to foster heresy, is it any wonder they would revise their history?
I will conclude with 1 final comparision. 1st the view of the Sinsinawa Domincans on their ministry. "We believe that at the heart of ministry is relationship." & while that relationship does include mention of God, but only under the term Trinity, not Father, Son & Holy Spirit, but only God & Christ or the One (hopefully not Obama but it could be).
Then there is this on the Our Lady of the Rosary homepage:
Our Lord is waiting for YOU!
Our chapel doors are open from 6AM-7PM daily. You are welcome to come during those times to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, solemnly exposed in the monstrance.
Holy Mass is at 7:15 Monday-Saturday, 7:30 on Sunday.
Our schedule is posted on the Life and Mission Page.
I think this says it all.
_________________
Added 11:30pm - 12/12/2009: Was thinking about this & have to add it. Look at the faces of Sr. Donna & Sr. Magdalene. Which 1 looks happy, filled with joy & the Holy Spirit? Which 1 looks miserable, filled with unhappiness & anger? Given that each is claiming to follow God in what they are doing, which 1's God would you rather serve? I think you know my answer.

Sinsinawa Dominicans Upholding Catholic Teaching - I Don't Think So!!!!!

The other day I put up a post about my dealings with Sr. Donna Quinn & the Sinsinawa Dominicans. In the post I included the statement they issued. Here is part of that statement:
"We as Sinsinawa Dominican women are called to proclaim the Gospel through the ministry of preaching and teaching to participate in the building of a holy and just society. As Dominican religious, we fully support the teaching of the Catholic Church regarding the dignity and value of every human life from conception to natural death. We believe that abortion is an act of violence that destroys the life of the unborn. We do not engage in activity that witnesses to support of abortion." (emphasis mine)
DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not only do they not support the teaching of the Catholic Church in the area of abortion, they do work to support abortion. & that is not the only area of Catholic teaching they are working to undermine.
Let's go over to the Peace & Justice section of their website since that is where you would expect to find anything about opposeing abortion/Pro-life. If we read the intro it would seem they do uphold Catholic teachings.
"When we authentically preach the Gospel, this commitment to justice follows. . . .
As we look around our world and we reflect seriously on the Gospel, we are challenged to work to bring our reality into closer conformity with Gospel demands. That challenge means working toward the elimination of everything in our society that does not respect and sustain the basic dignity, fundamental rights, and decent quality of life for all persons."
So let's see what they consider needs to be eliminated. Here are the justice committees they have:
* Alternative Investment Advisory Committee - "to use our resources for socially responsible investments"
* Shareholder and Consumer Action Advisory Committee - "to see the relationship between our investments and our corporate voice"
* Ecology Committee
* Restorative Justice Committee
* Faith and Resistance Working Circle
* Antiracism
* Women's Network (The 1 you would expect to especially deal with abortion & you would be right. But wait until you see how.)
Before I get to the Women's Network I would like to look at some other things, starting their corporate stances for investment. You would expect there to be a stance about abortion, but no, there isn't. Nuclear weapons, opposing the death penalty, & Iraq are there.
Gee wouldn't you think that they would see investing in companies that are Pro-life or working to change companies that support abortion? Guess they don't see the killing of over 3200 babies a day as that important.
As for their Action Alert list, again Iraq, immigration, climate change, School of the Americas & other issues, but nothing about abortion.
1 more stop before we get to the biggie, & that stop is Peace & Justice resources, a page of links to sites to help you work for Peace & Justice.
3 groups in particular grab my attention.
1st there is a link to NETWORK, a National Catholic Social Justice Lobby as they bill themselves. let's see what 1 of the things they have lobbied for is. On 12 August 2009 LifeSiteNews had the following story, NETWORK's Sr. Campbell Backs Ryan-DeLauro "Planned Parenthood Bailout Bill. Sr. Simone Campbell is their executive director. So they have a group they endorse that claims to be Catholic yet supports funding abortion.
The 2nd is Sisters Online. There is plenty else I will say later, for now all I will say is they have an action alert calling on people to ask the US House to approve the Pelosi version of ObamaCare. Nothing about ensuring it protects the unborn or doesn't have death panels, just a call to pass it. Under Empower Women they praise abortion supporter Hillary Clinton. & it promotes UNICEF which the Vatican quit supporting back around 1996 since it promotes abortion. As I said, stay tuned for more later.
Finally we have Amnesty International. As LifeSiteNews reported on 20 August 2007, It's Official - Amnesty International is Now An Abortion Lobby Group - Catholics Boycott... In it they quote from a 17 August 2007 statement: "Amnesty International committed itself to strengthening the organization's work on the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and other factors contributing to women's recourse to abortion and affirmed the organization's policy on selected aspects on abortion (to support the decriminalization of abortion, to ensure women have access to health care when complications arise from abortion and to defend women's access to abortion". (Emphasis mine) LifeSiteNews, C-FAM & LifeNews have had a multitude of reports on AI's pushing for abortion. & you can find plenty of corroborative evidence on AI's own website.
This alone should be enough to demolish the claim "We do not engage in activity that witnesses to support of abortion." let alone any claims to support Catholic Teaching on abortion
But I haven't gotten to the biggie yet, Women's Network. What we find there will not only put the final nail in the coffin when it comes to abortion, it will show how they also work to undermine other aspects of Catholic Teaching as well.
Let's start with their membership list. I am sure that no 1 will be surprized to see Sr. Donna Quinn's name listed. Actually, you have no idea who are the religious or they laity as they don't use Sr., Miss, Mrs or even Ms.
Next the Vision statement: "The Sinsinawa Women’s Network includes those who are willing to work toward a feminist vision of inclusivity and justice for all peoples and respect for all creation."
1 of the goals states that they will "provide educational opportunities in eco-feminist principles and feminist theology". (emphasis mine)
I will get to some of the other aspects but I want to focus in on 1 aspect of feminist theology to start with. Wikipedia has the following under their Feminist theology entry: "Christian feminism is an aspect of feminist theology . . . . Their major issues include . . . . reproductive rights ". (I will get to some of the other aspects later.
I am sure by now everyone recognizes the term "reproductive rights" & is aware of what it includes. But for those who don't it includes the right to legal or safe abortion & the right to control one's reproductive functions (birth control).
By now it should be clear to anyone that the statement put out by Sinsinawa is disingenuous at best. & I would be bold enough to say an out & out lie.
I am not going to go into detail here, but I want to look a little more at feminist theology & Sisters Online to show that this is only 1 part of the dissent to Catholic teaching that they promote. Another of the other issues are promoting is women's ordination to the Catholic priesthood. This is another Sr. Donna biggie & 1 that the Dominican who called me last week said they were told not to discuss. & the only reason for that would be because they support it. If they were opposed to it then they would be willing to uphold Catholic teaching in this area. Next we have the search for a feminine or gender-transcendent divine. This is basically trying to recreate God into something different from that which we find in the Bible. In other words, a heretical view of God that is more that of gnosticism that authentic Catholicism.
& no, I didn't forget Sisters Online. Again I just want to mention a couple of things. Basically they are a New Age, Gaia worshipping group. & it also promotes the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) who is upset because they are being investigated by the Vatican for their dissent from Catholic teaching. Another group they are buddy buddy with is Call to Action that promotes abortion & women's ordination. (As an aside, 1 of their other affiliates are another hotbed of New Age & dissent, the Sisters of Saint Francis here in DBQ.)
Well, anyone out there who wants to say that the Sinsinawa Dominicans are faithful Catholics is either on the same dissenting wavelength they are or has skipped straight to this sentence without reading the rest of the post. For the rest of us, I think it is pretty clear that Sr. Donna is not the exception to the rule but a prime example of the mindset of the Sinsinawa Dominicans. (a few of the elder nuns excepted) & what I have shown you is only the tip of the iceberg.
It is clear that the Sinsinawa Dominicans do not think that protecting the unborn from being murdered by abortion is either a human rights issue or an social justice issue. If it was as important as they claim it is then they would not be so silent on the issue.
They would do well to remember what Pope John Paul II said: "Just as a century ago it was the working classes which were oppressed in their fundamental rights, and the Church very courageously came to their defence by proclaiming the sacrosanct rights of the worker as a person, so now, when another category of persons is being oppressed in the fundamental right to life, the Church feels in duty bound to speak out with the same courage on behalf of those who have no voice. Hers is always the evangelical cry in defence of the world's poor, those who are threatened and despised and whose human rights are violated".7
Today there exists a great multitude of weak and defenceless human beings, unborn children in particular, whose fundamental right to life is being trampled upon. If, at the end of the last century, the Church could not be silent about the injustices of those times, still less can she be silent today, when the social injustices of the past, unfortunately not yet overcome, are being compounded in many regions of the world by still more grievous forms of injustice and oppression, even if these are being presented as elements of progress in view of a new world order." (Evangelium Vitae par 5, emphasis mine)
By their support of groups who push for abortion it is clear that they are not "working toward the elimination of everything in our society that does not respect and sustain the basic dignity, fundamental rights, and decent quality of life for all persons." If they were there would 1st of all be a whole section devoted to Pro-life. & you wouldn't see them linking to the groups that are pro-abortion either.
Any claims to being against abortion/Pro-life by the Sinsinawa Dominicans as a group are disingenuous at best, & an out & out lie in actuality. (Note: This does not mean that there are not a few Pro-life sisters. I am sure many of the elderly members, if they are aware, are just as scandalized as the rest of us. But they are unable to speak out as they do not have any power to speak up publicly. This is all the more reason why the upcoming investigation is striving to protect them by providing the opportunity to speak out without their identities being made public.)
If I ever get the chance, I will try to get back & look more at feminist theology or Sisters Online. This post is already pretty long & if I go on any more it will become a novel. But if I don't get a chance to go more in depth, I suspect Mr. Scampers at The Heresy Hunter also has them in his sights & will get to them down the road.
______________
PS: I think that they have also earned a dishonorable mention in my "Know Your Nun" series. The good news is I have 3 real groups of Dominican nuns I can think of off the top of my head to use as examples. & with how low this group has sunk I will be using all 3.
So if you will excuse me, I need to go & clean up after wading through this cesspool.

Know Your Nuns Special Edition - Heretical Nun Banned In Cincinatti Archdiocese

The green haired grannie at the left is Sister of Charity Louise Akers. OK, I'm not sure if this is here actual hair color or just the way it appeared in the picture accompanying the article in the NonCatholic Reporter. But, as you will see, it is an appropriate shade anyway.
Why do I mention her? Simple, she has recently been banned by Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk & cannot make any presentations or teaching for credit in any archdiocesan-related institutions. he did so because she refused to publicly disassociate herself from the issue of women’s ordination. At her request, Akers and Pilarczyk met for 30 minutes on 10 August 2009 in his archdiocesan office in Cincinnati. She has refused.
Naturally all the usual suspects have their underwear in a knot. 1 of the comments realyy got me in light of a statement of hers. Quoting the words of Martin Luther at the end of her statement on why she couldn't obey the Archbishop, she said: “Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise.” Compare this to what Fr. Paul Donohue, a member of the Comboni Missionaries. said: “It is mystifying to me that the Archbishop of Cincinnati would ask Sister of Charity Louise Akers to refrain from teaching for credit in the archdiocese. Both the archbishop and Sister Louise love, support, and cherish the Church that upholds the gospel mission and vision of Jesus. Both present what the Church teaches." (Note: This is only the 1st part of the quote. The rest of it turned my stomach way too much to repeat here.)
For lack of a better word to describe what Fr. Donohue said, I will refrain from swearing at this point. But it it clear to me that anyone who sees herself as a modern Martin Luther, spits in the eye of the Pope & does anything but present authentic Catholic teaching. Maybe Fr. Donohue should get a copy of the Catechism of the Church & refresh his memory on what the Church actually teaches.
Not surprizingly she holds a doctorate in feminist theology from the Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, Mass. I highly doubt that any Catholic teaching was brought up in her doctorate program except to be ridiculed & attacked. Another non-surprize is the fact that she is coordinator of the Office of Peace, Justice and the Integrity of Creation for her religious community. Any doubts that she is into New Age feminism can be safely put to rest. She has also been associated with NETWORK, a social justice group that claims to be Catholic but worships at the altar of Obama.
Then there is this quote by her: "I love, support and cherish the part of Church that upholds the gospel mission and vision of Jesus.” WT___???? If she did, then she would be a loving obedient bride of Christ who actually supported & taught what the Church teaches & not try to remake Jesus over into her image & likeness.
Another insite into how her mind thinks is how she views the complaints about the presence of her name and photo on the Women’s Ordination Conference web site and her membership on its advisory board. In explaining why she removed her name from the ordination web site, she said she did it in an effort to defuse the “destructive assaults” against her. So now complaints about her lack of orthodoxy are "destructive assaults" huh? Sounds to me like she is taking a page from the Obama playbook of how to describe those who oppose your agenda. & it sounds to me like she is being anything but charitable.
Bravo to Archbishop Pilarczyk for doing the right thing. Rich Leonardi @ 10 Reasons suggest that we show our support support for His Excellency by sending him a brief note.

Know Your Nuns - Social Justice (Gospel) Edition

In this edition I am doing something slightly different. Usually I show someone who claims to be a member of (or the whole) certain Women's Religious Order & someone who really lives as that Order is meant to. This time I want to look at someone who claims to be working for the poor & needy but is doing anything but that & a nun who really lived out the Catholic Social Teachings as they were supposed to. (Both are also examples of how their orders operate as well.)

Faux Social Justice Nun

Simone Campbell SSS
(Sisters of Social Service)

Simone Campbell is the executive director of Network, a national Catholic justice lobby. If that alone doesn't raise alarms then a recent statement of hers should. Speaking on ObamaCare she said: "Instead of making a decision many representatives are getting confused by insignificant details." (Another Fruit(cake) Of Vatican II ) Apparently, she thinks that abortion coverage is an insgnificent detail. I base that on what I saw on both the Network website & her order's website. She is also buddy-buddy with Hilary Clinton. & we know where Hilary stands on abortion. Also, she is emblematic of her order. We won't go into all the New Age garbage there. But I will say that I don't see anything about bringing Jesus to these people as was mentioned by Papa Benedetto in his recent encyclical. & definitely no Eucharistic spirituality. In fact everything I see at both Network & the SSS website would be prime examples of the wrong way pointed out in that encyclical.

Real Social Justice Nun

Mother Teresa MC
(Missionary of Charity)

Do I even have to explain the difference? 1st of all, anyone who has read anything at all of what she has said knows that everything she did was to bring people to Jesus. Her whole spirituality & that of the order is Eucharistic in orientation. (Daily schedule) The order is truly contemplative in action. & as she once said about what Simone Campbell calls an insignificant detail, abortion; "Any country that accepts abortion, is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what it wants." (more quotes here & here, Speech of Mother Teresa of Calcutta to the National Prayer Breakfast, Washington, DC, February 3, 1994) Abortion was not an insignificent detail to her. I think I am safe to say that were she here today, she would be speaking out loud & clear against ObamaCare's including abortion.
PS: I have it from a reliable source that Simone Campbell may be in line for a well deserved inclusion in a future edition of MR. SCAMPERS' GALLERY OF GOOFY NUNS aka HABITLESS HUSSIES (MSS / No. 11).

Know Your Nuns - Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration

I have include their mission statements. I have also included some other statements that reflect how they see themselves. Beyond the Franciscan name & the fact that the both have Eucharistic adoration, there is very little similarity. I will acknowledge that the FSPA hasn't wrecked their beautiful chapel. Amazingly, the FSPA also has a link to Ex Corde Ecclesia.

Real Nuns: Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoraion (SSFPA)

Mission -- We, the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration, participate in the mission of the Roman Catholic Church by living the Gospel in imitation of St. Francis and our foundress, Mother Maria Theresia Bonzel. As consecrated women faithful to our vows, we strive in community to combine the contemplative life with the active through perpetual adoration and works of mercy in education, healthcare, and other ecclesial ministries. We respond gratefully to our call in the Church to adoration and evangelization by:
- fidelity to our charism of Eucharistic and lived adoration
- dependence upon Divine Providence
- loving concern for one another
- authentic witness of our Franciscan values
- joyful service to all in need of Christ's presence, especially the poor
Following Christ: As we enter the Third Millennium, the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration continue to live and cherish the motto of our Foundress, Mother Theresia Bonzel, "He Leads, I Follow." May Jesus Christ be praised forever!
Loyalty to the Church: As members of a Papal congregation approved by the Church we are responsible to serve the whole people of God and reverence the Pope and the Magisterium.
Prayer: We strive to direct ourselves completely toward Christ, so that we do not live for self, but rather love and serve Him in others.
Apostolates: We serve the Church through Perpetual Adoration, education, healthcare and other ecclesial apostolates. In so doing, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus who spent His public life praying, teaching, healing and ministering to others.
