esp to anyone who regular reads this blog.
I got my Winter 2010 issue of
Human Life International's
Front Lines. When I opened it & saw who had won the latest Millstone Award, I was not surprized in the least. She definitely deserves it, sadly.
As I am sure some of you may know who I am refering to, but for those who don't, the award was given to Sr. Donna Quinn, O.P. (l) Yes that Sr. Donna, the abortion mill escort that I have written several posts about.
For those who are not familiar with my posts let me share a few of the reasons HLI gave for deserving the Millstone. So what are some of the things she has done to undermine the teachings of the Church that brought her to this point?
In 1974 she founded & directed Chicago Catholic Women. (It disolved in 2000). In 1976 she was a co-founder of the Women's Ordination Conference. In 1983 she helped found WomenChurch Convergance. She is also a leader of the National Coalition of American Nuns. By now I am sure you have figured out these are all dissenting groups. The have vocally opposed the Church's teachings on every aspect of sexual morality, abortion, homosexuality, contraception & the male priesthood.
But she is probably most infamous for her many years of acting as an escort at a local abortion mill. & when the scandal began to get widespread coverage her prioress, Sr. Patricia Mulcahey defended her actions saying "if the protestors were not abusive, she would not be there." Finally the outcry became such that Sr. Patricia was forced to make her quit. LifeSiteNews played a huge role in bringing it to light. & my own speaking up locally earned me the wrath of many members of the Sinsinawa Dominicans (Click on Sinsinawa Dominicans below for the story of my dealings.) As HLI points out (as I have as well) there is emphasis on a "feminist vision of inclusivity" among other things but nothing about abortion. Sadly, she is not the exception but the rule for the members of the Sinsinawa Dominicans.
She uses the lie of physical violence by pro-lifers to justify her escort work. Her actions, however show that for the decption it is. She has signed statements in support of abortion in the UN's Millenium Development Goals. Sh has supported abortion in ObamaCare & attended several pro-abortion marched in DC. & while she expressed outrage at the murder of abortionist George Tiller she didn't say a single word about the murder of pro-lifer Jim Poullion. (No surpize as it would prove her claims to be the lie they are.)
Her bio lists her favorite causes as "reproductive choice, equal rights, lesbian and gay irhts, and different faith traditions.' Her favorite buttons & bumper stickers include "Authentic Pro-Choice Catholic;" "I'm Poped Out;" "Keep Abortion Safe and Legal;" & (as HLI rightly calls it) the ever ridiculous "Ordain Women or Stop Baptizing Them." She describes herself thus: "I am a feminist, Chicagoan, Irish, Catholic White Sox fan---in that order." HLI says that "for someone who once said 'All organized religions are immoral in their gender discriminations (sic),' that sounds about right." While I basicly agree, I am surprized she puts Catholic before White Sox fan.
HLI points out that of all 20 Millstone Award recipients "nobody has more directly assisted in abortion" & she has "caused more grave damage to the women's religious orders in the United States than any other single person." Because of the untold number of women religious who left their orders & children who have lost their faith by her actins, she deserves this award, as HLI says many thousand times over. But they can only give her 1. (May I humbly suggest they send 1 to the prioress, Sr. Patricia as well as several others for the others at Sinsinawa who are behind what she is doing.)
As HLI points out "she desperately needs our prayers. May she come to realize the errors of her ways and become a great force for good." To that prayer I add my "AMEN!"
She joins such infamous past recipents as Fr. Richard McBrien (only 2 time winner), Fr. Robert Drinan SJ, Fr. Charles Curran, Fr. John I. Jenkins CSC, & Obama Catholics.

Great piece, Al. Indeed, "millstone" is a perfect descriptor for this award.
