Memo to Biden, Obama & Pro-abortion Catholics, the Least is the Pre-born

VP Biden has put out a video claiming he upholds Catholic social doctrine. The most disgusting part is he where he talks about "whatever you do to the least of these". He then goes on to try & show how Obama & he share authentic Catholic values & uphold Catholic social doctrine. What he totally ignores is that by his support of abortion he has rejected the central part of that doctrine, & that he supports the least of the least being murdered in the womb.

He also ignores the part in Catholic social doctrine about marriage.

In fact he totally ignores how the Obama administration promotes a multitude of intrinsic evils as well as attacking the religious liberty of the Catholic Church.

They don't care anything for the values of the Catholic Church. In fact they downright oppose them & are doing everything to shut down the Catholic Church for standing up for its values.

 

 

You will note that everything Biden tauts as being in line with Catholic social teaching are those things that the Catholic Church allows prudential judgement on. Which means that Catholics can totally disagree with how Obama has approached those issues.

But Catholics cannot disagree with the teachings on abortion, birth control or gay marriage & remain good Catholics. In fact, as many Bishops have pointed out inrecent weeks, supporting those things & voting for politicans who do makes you, as Bishop Paprocki of Springfield said, "morally complicit and places the eternal salvation of your own soul in serious jeopardy."

& Biden seems to be leading the pack in doing so.

I would also like to point out that in addition Biden can add to the list of his sins, bearing false witness by his claims he is a good Catholic as well as the sin against the 5th Commandment of being a cause of scandal.

It is the Abortion Supporters Who Want to Push Back the Clock, To the Era of Eugenics Sanger Wanted

You regularly hear that it is pro-lifers that want to turn back the clock 40 years to the dark days before abortion was legal. But the truth is different, it is those supporting abortion that really want to turn the clock back to the early part of the 20th Century, in part by supporting the eugenics agenda that Margaret Sanger created Planned Parenthood to promote.

Part of that agenda was enforced sterilization of what she said were the feeble minded. Unfortunately, that part of the agenda was put into law across the USA. & contined to take place up into the 70s.

A huge number of those involuntary sterilizations were done on African-Americans & Native Americans. (See Maafa 21 for more)

What Margaret Sanger's supporters don't want to admit is that her eugenics movement in the USA played a huge part in inspiring Nazi Germany to do the same. In fact, the still existing, pro-abortion Rockefeller Foundation helped develop and fund various German eugenics programs, including the one that Josef Mengele worked in before he went to Auschwitz.

Well, it looks like we are heading back to those dark days. But this should be no surprize because eugenics, abortion & forced sterilization are all part of the "culture of death" that Sanger wanted this country to embrace. & Nevada is taking a lead in it.

In this case it is the Washoe County Social Services who are following the example of Nazi Germany & Communist China. They want 32 year old Elisa Bauer, who suffers from severe mental & physical disabilities attributed to fetal alcohol syndrome, to be forced to undergo an abortion, killing her 11 week old preborn child. Then they want her to be sterilized as well.

After learning Bauer was pregnant, Washoe County Social Services issued an informal report requesting that the Court set a status hearing to address the potential health effects Elisa’s pregnancy could have on her & her unborn child.  The reason for the abortion is the potential harm the anti-epileptic medication would do to the baby. Note, I said potential, not actual.

After reviewing all the facts, Dr. Michael Czerkes, an OB/GYN at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine said "Monitoring and screening in pregnancy is the recommended course of treatment in pregnancy for a baby who has been exposed to an anti-epileptic medication, not abortion. The risk of having a congenital abnormality is increased when taking these medications; however the risk is not great enough to recommend the ending of the pregnancy.” (emphasis mine)

Bauer is under the legal guardianship of her adoptive parents, William & Amy Bauer. She is said to have the mental & social capacity of a 6-year-old. But she is capable enough top know what is going on & that she cannot care for the child after he or she is born. The Bauers support her decision. They are following all the prenatal protocol for high-risk pregnancies. They have already lined up six qualified couples who are eager to adopt Elisa’s child once he or she is born.

It is clear to me that Wahoe County Social Services has sold out to the "culture of death" & their lies. The staff clearly see Bauer & her preborn child as something less than human.

Please pray that the judge will rule against the social services agency & in favor of Bauer & her child. They both deserve much better that Washoe Social Services wants them to have..

This Had to Be Hard for the Des Moines Register Editorial Board to Admit

Yesterday, the Des Moines Register editorial board announced it was endorsing Mitt Romney after endorsing Obama 4 years ago. As a part of the reasons given they said "The president’s best efforts to resuscitate the stumbling economy have fallen short. Nothing indicates it would change with a second term in the White House." It went on to say " His record on the economy the past four years does not suggest he would lead in the direction the nation must go in the next four years."

Ouch!!!!! But very true.

 

Like I said, this had to be very hard for them to admit, given the very liberal slant of the DMRegister these days.

I did have to laugh at 1 line in the explanation of how they reached their decision. "Opinions expressed by this board in no way affect news coverage, except to the extent than an endorsement itself becomes news." Yeah, right!!!!! Like I said, as is true of much of the Main Stream Media, the DM Register is slanted to the left & it's coverage shows it.

Even the way they showed the reasons for supporting Romney revealed that. They only focused in on the economy & ignored all the other things Obama did.

1st & formost they ignored ObamaCare, something the DMRegister supported.

Additionally, they totally ignored national defense & what has been happenning in the Arab world. They also ignored many other issues, including abortion, something the DMRegister is very much in favor of.

By doing so, it made it easier for them to write the endorsement in the way they did, that Obama did a good job, he tried, but now it is time to give someone else a chance. It meant that they could avoid saying that Obama has failed as miserably as he really has. It also gives them cover so they don't have to admit to the lie about Obama in this claim " Both President Barack Obama and Governor Romney are superbly qualified."

They know full well that Obama is anything but qualified. They know, & we have seen over the past 4 years how woefully unqualified Obama really is. He has spent more time rubbing shoulders with celebrities, bowing down to dictators & betraying our allies like Israel, than running the country as it should be run.

I think the DMRegister knew that to endorse Obama would hurt their little credibility left if they did.

Notr that it matters much. The once great DMRegister, "The paper Iowa depends on", is no longer great, or much paid attention to outside of Des Moines. It has all but abandoned most of the state. & Iowans have replied in kind by turning elsewhere.

But after the latest campaign ad for Obama where a woman says voting for Obama is like having sex for the 1st time, I have to finally speak up.

In short, despite all the uproar to the contrary, the Democrats are saying all women are just a bunch of what Rush Limbaugh described Sandra Fluke as, "s*^ts".

In other words they are making out all women to merely be sex objects. I'm sorry, but I thought that the goal of Woman's Lib was to no longer objectify women as only being good for sex & then disposed of.  Now that is exactly how they want women to be seen as.

I'm don't buy that. Women are much more than just this one part of their body, what the Dems called in one of their Obama campaign e-cards, your lady parts. & sex is much more than the sordid thing they have made it to be. (See Blessed John Paul II"s Theology of the Body for what it really is about.) Every woman is someone made in the image & likeness of God. & because of that they deserve to be treated with dignity & respect.

It is the Democrats, aiding by the radical feminazis who have abortion as their sacrament, who are waging the war on women, NOT the Republicans. 

I am angry. I am sick & tired of how the Obama administration, the abortion industry & even the so-called feminists have betrayed women & taken away their God given dignity & self-respect, replacing it was an image that is demeaning & disgusting instead.

As I said at the start, I have struggled with writing this for months. In part because of the language (stated & implied) I would have to use to describe how the Dems see women. But I can no longer be silent. What I said above is exactly what the Dems see women as, it is wrond, it is disgusting. & they need to be called out on it. Women need to realize, as I said, they are the ones waging war, taking away from who women really are. Women need to say "BASTA!" (enough) & tell the Dems, Obama, these radical feminist & the abortion industry that they won't allow them top get away with it any more.

The Latest On How the Catholic Campaign for Human Development Is Not Cleaning Up It's Act

Over the past 3 years, Reform CCHD Now! (RCN) has been looking into how the Catholic Campaign for Human Development has been distributing the money it receives to see how much goes to  organizations that promote abortion, birth control, homosexuality & even Marxism. The results have been anything but encouraging. Despite repeated claims by CCHD representatives that CCHD does not fund such groups, as well as supposed increased oversight by the USCCB, RCN has witnessed a rising trend in granting money to organizations that support abortion, birth control, homosexuality, &/or Marxism either directly or through coalitions. 

RCN has just published its latest grants report. They found that $2.9 million Catholic dollars went to organizations promoting abortion, homosexuality, birth control & even Marxism, either directly or through coalitions. 

Addtionally "RCN found that $2.8 million of the total $7.6 million (38%) in CCHD grants went to organizations undermining the Church's efforts to protect human life and dignity."

According to RCN "The full findings were not to be made public prior to review with bishops and National CCHD staff. Unfortunately, the executive director of National CCHD canceled the scheduled meeting with the explanation that, “We see no reason to meet at this time.” We sent the full report to every diocesan bishop and are now making the report available to the public."

I can't say I am surprized that they didn't want to meet as they knew that they couldn't defend themselves. So rather than meet, they literally ran & hid.

FYI: Most dioceses that take the CCHD collection only retain 25% of the collection money for local use. The other 75% is sent to national CCHD, who then redistributes that collected money to organizations like those listed for the individual dioceses in the report.
Some dioceses no longer collect for the CCHD. Others, like the Archdiocese of Dubuque, have a Fall 3-in-1 campaign that includes them. That letter is sent out & the collection taken up in September. Even though you can designate where it goes, that money that isn't will be used to make up the shortfall for the goal of each collection.

This ongoing willingness on both the diocesan & national level of the CCHD thumbing its nose at Catholic teachings cannot be allowed to continue. It is clear that something drastic must be done. & it must be done by the Bishops, individually as well as collectively to clean up the mess at the CCHD. The only answer I can see is to shut it down completely & start from scratch. But it will have to be much more than cosmetic changes, the new progam will have to have huge safeguards built in to ensure something like this never happens in the future. That means that those working for the new organization on every level must be people who fully support what the Catholic Church teaches in word as well as action. It means that groups must be carefully vetted. This also includes doing the same for Catholic Relief Services as well.

25 October is World Pasta Day

 

Yes, you heard me right, today is World Pasta Day, a day specially set aside to celebrate pasta in all its shapes & forms, not that every day should be one to celebrate pasta.

The day came about as a result of the World Pasta Congress held in Rome on 25th October 1995. At that meeting representatives from various countries discussed together the theme of the collective promotion in favour of pasta consumption, exchanging their ideas & experiences. Stress was laid on the importance of spreading to the utmost the knowledge of pasta among consumers throughout the world by various means.

The UN.A.F.P.A. (Union of Organizations of Manufacturers of Pasta Products of the E.U.) is responsible for co-ordinating the initiative world wide.

The objective of World Pasta Day is to "underline the fact that pasta is a global food, consumed in all five continents, having unquestionable merits, appropriate for a dynamic and healthy life style capable of meeting both primary food requirements and  those of high-level gastronomy."

THERE IS NO WAY I WILL ARGUE WITH THAT!!!!!

Many countries have their own types of noodles. IMHO none of them beats the Italiano version known as pasta. The name comes from the Italiano word pasta, which came from the Latin pasta "dough, pastry cake".  There are 2 categories,  dried (pasta secca) & fresh (pasta fresca). While some of the ingredients can vary, (eggs, tomatoes, squid ink for example) most pastas have 1 constant ingredient, semolina flour made from duram wheat. In addition to the 2 basic categories, pasta comes in a wide variety of shapes & colors. Dry pastas are made by an extrusion process, while fresh pasta is usually made by hand.

The types of pasta range from minute (like acini di pepe, orzo, ditilini) that are often used in soups, to short (penne, mostaccioli, rigatoni) to long (linquini, spaghetti, tagliatelli) to special shapes (conchiglie, campanelle, strozzapreti) to stuffed (ravioli, tortellini, cannelloni). In addition the same shape can have various names in various parts of Italia. Italiano pasta names often end with the masculine plural suffixes -ini, -elli, -illi, -etti or the feminine plurals -ine, -elle etc., all conveying the sense of "little"; or with -oni, -one, meaning "large". Many other suffixes like -otti ("largish") & -acci ("rough", "badly made") may occur, too. In Italian, all pasta type names are plural. The endings are often used to describe various versions of the same basic pasta, i.e. spaghetti, spaghettini.

The 1st recorded reference to pasta is from the 1st century BC writings of Horace, where he mentions lagana (Sing.: laganum). Yes, that is the original of the pasta we now use for lasagna. Over the centuries the various types we know today eveolved.  These days we tend to associate pasta with a tomato sauce, but tomatoes weren't known in Italia under after Columbus discovered America. Their usage as a base for a sauce began in Southern Italia & evenetually spread throughout Italia. But there are a wide variety of sauces, from the simple, olive oil or butter based, to egg based, to pesto, etc.

1 of my lasting memories from childhood was when we would make the egg noodles for the Winter months. Grandpa had this huge wooden borad. On it he would pile some flour, make a well & add the eggs, gradually incorperating them into the flour. If needed, more flour was added. The dough was needed, then using this long dowel-like rolling pin he would roll the dough out into a roughly circular shape. At this point a clean sheet was spread on one of the beds to lay it out to dry for a bit. This was repeated until every bed in the house was covered with sheets that had the dough drying. (Note: this is a simplified description.)

When it was dry enough to not stick together, but not too dry to cut, each sheet was then rolled up & cut into strips. These where then all spread out on 1 of the larger beds to dry. Some were frozen, some allowed to dry completely. Throughout the Winter they were used in homemade chicken soup as well as may other ways.

Occasionally we had homemade ravioli as well.

I am not 100% sure what I will be having for Supper, but I am sure it will be some sort of pasta. & I hope you will as well. & whatever you have, Buon appetito!

More Light of Truth on Planned Parenthood's Lies

 

1 of the big reasons Planned Parenthood hates groups like Live Action that investigate them is simple. Planned Parenthood is a part of the "demonic "culture of death". As such it doesn't want the light of truth shining on how the really operate, through lies & deceit.

1 of the big lies told to justify taxpayer money going to Planned Parenthood is that they do mammograms. This has been exposed as a lie, yet it continues to be repeated. 1 of the most recent times was by Obama*in the 2nd presidential debate. So late Thursday, 18 October was declared Call Planned Parenthood to Schedule Your Imaginary Mammogram Day.

*nce again we see that Planned Parenthood is getting back a huge return on their investment in Obama. Beyond that, we see how he is willing to lie about Planned Parenthood, so why should we trust him to tell the truth about other things?

An e-mail was sent out by the vigil coordinator, Trina Hingtgen, about what happenned this morning during the thunderstom that passed through DBQ. Here is a part of it:

Just wanted to share some good news:

Rain does not bother me but when the lightening started this morning I decided that we would put our prayers in front of the PP on hold and wait until the weather improved to gather in front of the clinic again. I drove over to the clinic to tell everyone to pack up until the lightening stopped but the prayer warriors instead said to me, “I can’t think of a better place to be if God wants to take me!!” Praise God! They had umbrellas, but they were soaked and despite that, they had great big smiles on their faces– that kind of love only comes from having God in your life. Thank you! As if that wasn’t enough, a short time later one of those soaking wet prayer warriors stopped by the office to drop off a donation –some of the proceeds from her garage sale this weekend! Pro-lifers truly are the best!!"

 

I don't know all the ways that God will honor their efforts this morning. I do know that He is working powerfully. I am sure that God will honor their willingness to brave the lightening, as well as that of those of us who have braved the biting wind cold, chilling rain & darkness over the past several weeks so that it will bear much fruit & bring many victories in the spiritial battle that is going on at the DBQ Planned Parenthood.

I Can Just Hear the Screaming From the Pro-abort, Pro-contraception Liberal Catholycs When This Happens

According to the headline from The Vatican Observer, Pope Paul VI to be beatified soon. All that is left is for the miracle needed to be approved.

In reality it is a little more complicated than this. Currently Pope Paul VI is recognized as a Servant of God. The 1st step. But the investigation required for his being declared venerable is in its final steps.

Recently the theologians of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints finished examining the “Positio” with the documents of the canonical process. They have now voted in favour of the former pope’s beatification, without raising any objections. On 11 December the cardinals & bishops of the Congregation will also vote. Since there were no objections from the theologians, the final “yes” from cardinals looks highly likely. Then it goes on to the Pope.

 This means that Papa Benedetto XVI could officially recognize Pope Paul’s “heroic virtues” in the next consistory for the promulgation of the decrees on beatifications & canonizations. This is expected to take place next Christmas. All that will then be left before the beatification ceremony takes is the official recognition of a miracle that occurred through the intercession of Paul VI.   Out of the alledged miracles put forward Antonio Mazzaro, the Postulator promoting his cause, has already chosen a healing case which initial analyses proved “unexplainable”. The alleged miracle involves the healing of an unborn child which took place sixteen years ago in California.

According to the article "During the pregnancy, doctors found a serious problem in the foetus and because of the repercussions it would have had on the brain, they advised the young mother that the only solution was to abort. The woman had wanted to follow the pregnancy through and entrusted herself to the intercession of Paul VI, the pope who wrote the “Humanae Vitae” encyclical in 1968. The child was born without problems but the family would have to wait until the age of 16 to have full confirmation perfect healing."

The Vatican’s formal examination of the miracle cannot begin until the announcement of the candidate’s heroic virtues. But this could all be over & done with quite quickly. So it is very possible that sometime next year Pope Paul VI could be officially declared blessed & be 1 step away from sainthood.

Like I said, can you imagine the huge outcry from the progressive (as they label themselves) Catholycs who want to change the Catholic Church's teaching on contraception & abortion.  Pope Paul's beatification would send a clear signal that God does not agree with what they are trying to do & affirm, once again, the Church's teaching on these subjects.

In huge part, the alledged miracle, should it be approved, will shout that very message out loud & clear. These days, we hear the arguement about quality of life for the child to justify aborting those babies who may be born with serious mental or physical problems. That the mother specificly called on the Pope who reaffirmed the Church's teachings on birth control in his encyclical makes it all the clearer that those, from even before the encyclical came out, wanted to change the Church's teaching, were wrong.

There is an old saying "God works in mysterious ways!" While this is usually true, in this case, I think God is making the way He is working pretty clear. & those who oppose the Church's teaching will ignore what He is doing & saying at the eternal peril of their souls.

 

As for the other recent Popes from Pius XII to John Paul II, the process is at various stages for each of them.

Venerable Pope Pius XII's cause is waiting for a miracle to be approved so he can be declared blessed. Blessed Pope John XXII's cause is awaiting a 2nd miracle for him to be declared a saint. For Servant of God, Pope John Paul I, the cause was opened in 1990. The Roman phase of the investigation began in 2009. For Blessed John Paul II, the investigation into the 2nd miracle so he can be declared a saint has begun. I am also willing to bet that some of the same "theologians" who opposed Blessed John Paul II's beatification because he opposed bith control will take the same stand when it comes time to officially beatify Paul VI.

Who Is He Kidding??????????

 

 

This morning Chief Justice Dennis Jacobs of the 2nd Court of Appeals issued a ruling striking down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act.  Wait until you read his reasoning.

Justice Jacobs deemed homosexuals a “politically powerless minority”. Is he serious????? Politically powerless????? What planet has he been living on?

Has he seen the number of gays on network TV? Has he seen how politically active the gay rights groups are? Has he seen how corporations are bending over backwards to cater to the gay community, even though it is less than 2% of the population? They are anything but politically powerless.
Whether you agree with the ruling or not, whether you approve of gay marriage or not, this reason is downright insulting to gays. IMHO it plays into all the old stereotypes of sissy mama's boys.

Jacobs added that “DOMA’s classification of same-sex spouses was not substantially related to an important government interest. Accordingly, we hold that Section 3 of DOMA violates equal protection and is therefore unconstitutional.”

Now we get into where he really goes off the track. The government does have an interest, a very important interest when it comes to protecting marriage as being between a man & a woman.

Shall we start with the children. "Sociologists have demonstrated over and over again that the optimal nurturing environment for young children is in a home where they are raised in a two-parent family headed by a man and a woman who are married to each other. All good public policy will facilitate this ideal and discourage the recognition of marriage counterfeits." (Why same-sex marriage is bad for children)

That alone should be reason enough. I know, what about those adult children who had 2 mommies or 2 daddies that say everything turned out OK. I would ask, are you the exception that proves the rule?

Next, every civilization that has ever existed has been built of the foundation of marriage being between a man & a woman. Yes, in some times & places polygamy was allowed. But even then it was between people of the opposite sex.

But more often than not, polygamy either died out or was not an acceptable form of marriage. The basic structure has been that it is between one man & one woman. & for life.

It has been that way for good reason. "Because the best and most effective way to avert crime, poverty, drug abuse and other social pathologies is to have strong, intact families. 'Being raised in a married family reduces a child's probability of living in poverty by about 80 percent,' writes the Heritage Foundation's Robert Rector." So, yes, the government does have a very important interest, preventing the total collapse of our society, thus failing to "insure domestic Tranquility, . . .  promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" as our Constitution makes it very clear is the duty of the government.

Additionally, this is judicial activism attempting to subvert the political debate in order to impose a particular point of view that is neither what the majority wants or what the Constitution intended.

Judge Chester Straub, the lone dissenter in the 2-1 ruling said " “Courts should not intervene where there is a robust political debate, because doing so poisons the political well, imposing a destructive anti-majoritarian constitutional ruling on a vigorous debate. Courts should not entertain claims like those advanced here, as we can intervene in this robust debate only to cut it short.”

He got it right, Jacobs didn't.

Sorry Justice Jacobs, but you get an F in Constitutional Law. Let's just pray that the majority of those on the Supreme Court aren't fooled by his logic.

Did James Carville Say Democratic Voters Were Too Stupid to Think For Themselves?

Apparently so.

 

 

That is if this quote is real:"Ideologies aren't all that important. What's important is psychology.
The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That's why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.
Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don't have a clue as to political reality.
What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.
The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn't have a clue than there were Republicans.
Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you're smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That's why I'm a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.”

 

For any of those who wonder why the Democrats make so many promises, now you understand. They think the average voter is "dumb & lazy" & "doesn't have a clue." In short, you can be bought off with with the promise of something for nothing.

On the other hand, despite his claims to the contrary, he knows that truth is NOT relative. Truth is always truth. What he is saying is that Democratic voters are too stupid to recognize the truth & will buy a lie if it is wrapped in a shiny enough package.

As I pointed out, if this quote is real or not has not is not settled. But from how I have seen him operate over the years, it does sound plausible that he at least thinks this way.

So, even if this quote isn't real, it still accurately captures the mindset of those in charge of the Democratic party. He may or may not of said it, but this is what Obama & the Democratic elites running the party think.

A Little Aid to Help You Do the Math on Abortion's Death Toll

Yesterday, I put up a post that looked at how to better understand the numbers involving deaths by abortion. I compared the populations of towns, cities, counties, states, etc., in order to help people better understand  the real effect the deaths of all those preborn babies via abortion was having on America.

Besides showing how those abortions over various time periods is the equivalent of wiping out the entire population of those locations I was familiar with, I intended to include a chart with the numbers of abortions done over those time periods so others could see how it would affect them. I didn't have the time to, so here it is now. (See yesterday's post for how I arrived at this numbers)

1 hour - 167

1/2 day - 2000

1 day - 4000

1 week - 28,000

1 month (4 weeks) - 112,000

3 months (13 weeks) - 345,000

1/2 year - 690,000

1 year - 1.38 million

40 years (22 Jan 1973-2013) - 55 million (or more)

 

Remember that these numbers don't perfectly match up due to rounding. But they are accurate with in a small margin either way.

But even with them being slightly off one way or the other, they still are more than accurate enough for us to grasp the horror of the situation & spur us on to greater prayer & action.

40 Days for Life, 1/2 Way Through & A Look At the Effects of the Abortion Crisis on America

Today marks the halfway point in the Fall 2012 40 Days for Life Campaign. So far there have been at least 198 babies saved from abortion due to the various campaigns. So far, we have not heard of any lives saved here in DBQ with our local campaign. That doesn't mean we aren't having an effect.

While there is more traffic at some times than others, there are always at least a few cars going past the site each hour. So whether there is 1 of us or 10 of us out there praying, we are a Pro-life witness to them. & to the people working at Planned parenthood or their, as they call them, clients.
Last Thursday evening when I was out there, a young man came by. When he went by the 1st time he walked on to the road & said "honk-honk!" like when many of the cars do as they pass. When he came back he stopped to talk to us, explaining why he did what he did, his wife had the car & he usually honks. He then talked to us about why we were there as well as shared a little about his family.
Sunday nite we had our midpoint rally at St. Joseph the Worker School Gym. The purpose was to share what has gone on so far as well as encouraging us to persevere. The openning prayer was lead by Fr. Noah Diehm associate pastor of the Spires of Faith Catholic Church Cluster.  Next Hebrews 12:1-4 was read. Then Fr. James Parker pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in E DBQ & Nativity BVM in Menominee spoek on perseverance. As a part of his talk he shared part of the story of Father Walter Ciszek, SJ & his experiences as a prisoner in the Soviet Union. This included sharing a bit of what Fr. Chizek shared in 1 of his books about his struggles.
Next up I spoke on the abortion crisis & a reminder of how 40 Days was a part of the solution. I will share more about this later in the post. Then there was a slide presentation of pictures taken of those praying in front of the DBQ Planned Parenthood. After a short word of encouragement to increase our efforts people were asked to share their experineces. The evening ended with a closing prayer by Fr. Deihm & a blessing by Frs. Deihm & Parker.
Now back to what I said in my talk. On Saturday afternoon I went to the Power of Prayer Adoration Chapel in DBQ to pray about the talk, seek God's guidence on what to write & write it. As I was writing it, I was inspired to put the number of deaths of babies by abortions into a way that was easier to grasp than just the huge number of 54-55 million is. So, when I got home I did the preliminary research to get the numbers I needed. That night, for reasons you will soon see, I had trouble sleeping. Sunday afternoon I wrote that part of the talk.
So what did I do that upset me so as I better grasped the reality of the numbers dead via abortion?
I broke down that number to smaller sizes & compared them to various populations.
Before I go any farther, I need to make it clear that the number of abortions is approximate. The Centers for Disease Control does not require each state to report the number done each year. & not every state does. So the numbers aren't complete. & it takes a  The propaganda arm of Planned Parenthood also puts out its estimates.  So those in the pro-life movement have to use this info to make a reasonable guess that is probably, even at the higher end, lower than the actual number done. (Higher end estimate, lower end estimate). My assumption was that we would reach 55 million by the 40th Anniversary of Roe v Wade next year.
Doing that I came up with an average of 1.38 million abortions each of the 40 years. Estimates make it more like 1.2 million in recent years, but since I was covering the whole 40 year period I went with the 1.38 million number. Regardless, the average number of abortions done daily is about 4000.
Next I looked up the various populations of local communities, counties etc. This is what I came up with. & this is why I am sure I had trouble sleeping the night before based on my preliminary estimates.
Based on those numbers we see the following
The number of abortions done in 1/2 a day is approximately the population of East Dubuque, IL.
For 1 day it is about equal to the population of Asbury or Dyersville in Iowa.
2 Days about equals the population of Platteville, WI
My hometown of Oelwein, IA & adding nearby Hazleton - 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 days
Frome here on I will do the area followed by the time for which the number of abortions done approximately equals the population of that area.
Dubuque - just over 2 weeks
Add in the area immediately arround DBQ (including Asbury, Key West & E DBQ) - almost 2-3/4 weeks
Dubuque County - just short of a month
The tri-county area (Dubuque in IA, Jo Davies in IL & Grant in WI) - 6 weeks
Iowa - just over 2 years
Finally I took the total number of abortions done over 40 years. To get to that number I added the populations over every state arround Iowa - Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, N & S Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas & Missouri. But that only brought me to a little under 39 million people. So I had to add in half of the population of Canada, in particular, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia & Alberta, in order to reach the total number of abortions done. On Saturday nite, when I did a rough estimate in my head, I thought I would have to toss in all of Canada. As much as I could be relieved at the fact, when I did the final crunch, I was able to save half of Canada from death.
Now can you see why I had trouble sleeping?
Since abortions were legal we have wiped out the equivelent of the entire populations of 9 States & 5 Provinces. But because the deaths have been over time rather than occurring all at once or over a short period of time, we haven't fully grasped the damage that abortion has done to America.
Imagine if a plague struck & that many people dead in a short period of time, don't you think people would be screaming for something to be done to stop it.
Think about how that many deaths in so short a time would affect our county. Even though that number has been spread out over 40 years, it still has had an effect. We may very well have lost the person who would find a cure for cancer or AIDS. We may have lost the next Beethoven, Bach, Shakespeare, Jonas Salk, Albert Einstein or Madame Curie. Think of the effect this has had on our economy. Over half of those babies would be working by now, paying taxes, paying into Social Security etc. How many jobs aren't there because there wasn't the need for diapers, baby clothes etc., as well
I know that most of you aren't familiar with the local communities I referenced. but you do have similar sized communities where you are. Use them to help you better grasp the reality of what abortion has done to your community.
This afternoon a Pro-life friend of mine who was at the rally brought up the Moving Wall Memorial that is in DBQ. The wall lists the deaths of Americans in Vietnam over a 20 year period from 1955-75. It lists a little over 58,000 names. She pointed out that number is close to the population of DBQ. In short, the number of deaths that took place over 20 years in Vietnam equals the number of babies that die from abortion in a little over 2 weeks.
Let me expand on that. if you take the total number of American military deaths in every war, excursion, police action, etc., since 1775, it only equals the number of deaths of American babies in 1 year due to abortion.
I hope & pray that this serves to encourage all of you to redouble your efforts to fight abortion & build a "Culture of Life" instead. Again we need to start, end & undergird our efforts with prayer. Then we must do what ever else we can, from supporting & electing true Pro-life candidates, to speaking out (talking to friends, writing letters to the editor, your local, state & federal representatives, etc.), to praying in front of the local abortion clinic.
1 death of a baby by abortion is too many. 55 million is demonic evil at its worst.

Our Lady of Fátima & San Giuseppe

Today marks the 95th Anniversary of the final apparition of Mary to Lúcia dos Santos & her cousins Jacinta & Francisco Marto at Fátima, Portugal. Most people are familiar with the general story of the apparitions, the call to consecrate Russia to Mary's Immaculate Heart & the 3 Secrets. So, I won't repeat them. All I will add is that I do believe that the Consecration has taken place & was confirmed by Lúcia that it did as well is that the entire 3rd Secret has been revealed by the Vatican.

I will remind people of the basic message of Fátima as it is just as needed today as then. & it ties in perfectly with several other messages of Mary, like that at Robinsonville (now Champion) in Wisconsin, Akita in Japan,  & Kibeho in Rwanda. They all contain a call to prayer for the conversion of sinners, making reperations for sins & personal holiness & faithfulness to the Pope & the Catholic Church, either explicitly or implicitly. & if Catholics didn't do as asked, the world would face chastisment.

Robinsonville was over 150 years ago, Fátima was 95 years, & since then Akita & Kibeho have repeated the message. We cannot say that God hasn't warned us or given us plenty of time to repent, etc. I don't know if time is short or we will have many more years. What I do know is each of us must respond to this call, a call that is echoed in the call by Papa Benedetto for the Year of Faith that began last Thursday.

That aside, what I would like to focus in on are the events that occurred at this final apparition on this day 95 years ago.

What most people hear about is the Miracle of the Sun, a miracle promised by Mary. About 70,000 people showed up. It began raining & the fields turned to mud. At Noon the Miracle occurred.  Lúcia pointed up to the sky. The sun began spinning & dancing in the sky. At one point it seemed as if it would crash into earth. People could watch it without any damage to their eyesite.

But what is rarely mentioned is that in addition to that Miracle the children saw 3 other things happen. "After our Lady had disappeared into the immense distance of the firmament, we beheld St. Joseph with the Child Jesus and Our Lady robed in white with a blue mantle, beside the sun. St. Joseph and the Child Jesus seemed to bless the world, for they traced the Sign of the Cross with their hands. When, a little later, this apparition disappeared, I saw Our Lord and Our lady; it seemed to me to that it was Our Lady of Sorrows (Dolors). Our Lord appeared to bless the world in the same manner as St. Joseph had done. This apparition also vanished, and I saw Our Lady once more, this time  resembling Our Lady of Carmel." (The last was seen only by Lúcia.)

At that time there were 3 sets of Mysteries for the Rosary, the Joyful, the Sorrowful & the Glorious. The 3 apparitions line up with those Mysteries. God was calling us to pray the Rosary in a special way.

But I think God was calling us to a deeper devotion to San Giuseppe as well. The family as a divinely created institution is coming under attack from so many sides these days. God sent San Giuseppe with Mary to remind us that we must stand up & defend marriage as solely between a man & a woman 7 that 2 daaies or 2 mommies with a child does not a family make.

San Giueseppe's giving a priestly blessing is a reminder that the father is the head of the family & high priest of the domestic church as Blessed John Paul II called the family.

In a special way we should repent of the sins of our nation, especially those against the family (abortion, IVF, gay marriage) & make reperation to God for those sins, calling on the merits Jesus won for us on the Cross. In doing so, we will be answering the call God sent to us through Mary at Fátima.

2 Saints Get Their Doctorate

Yesterday was the opening of the thirteenth Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the theme The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith.

As a part of the openning Mass, Papa Benedetto officially proclaimed St. John of Avila & St. Hildegard of Bintgen as the 34th & 45th Doctors of the Church. St Hildegard also becomes the 4th woman to be named a Doctor of the Church.

The title is awarded to certain saints whom the Catholic Church recognizing as having made a particularly important contribution to theology or doctrine. The title comes from the Latin word docere, to teach, which is where the English word for doctor came from. While we thing of it as primarily applied to physicans of various sorts, it is the highest degree available for most forms of study from theology to history.

With some Church Doctotrs, like, Ss. Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross & Thérèse of Lisieux, the recognition was for how they enabled people to understand & live out the Catholic faith. For others, like Thomas Aquinas, their writings have laid the foundations for the theological & doctrinal developments that followed.

During the homily, Papa Benedetto explained why he cose to add these 2 to the list of Doctors of the Church.

 

"At this point, let us pause for a moment to appreciate the two saints who today have been added to the elect number of Doctors of the Church. Saint John of Avila lived in the sixteenth century. A profound expert on the sacred Scriptures, he was gifted with an ardent missionary spirit. He knew how to penetrate in a uniquely profound way the mysteries of the redemption worked by Christ for humanity. A man of God, he united constant prayer to apostolic action. He dedicated himself to preaching and to the more frequent practice of the sacraments, concentrating his commitment on improving the formation of candidates for the priesthood, of religious and of lay people, with a view to a fruitful reform of the Church.

 

Saint Hildegard of Bingen, an important female figure of the twelfth century, offered her precious contribution to the growth of the Church of her time, employing the gifts received from God and showing herself to be a woman of brilliant intelligence, deep sensitivity and recognized spiritual authority. The Lord granted her a prophetic spirit and fervent capacity to discern the signs of the times. Hildegard nurtured an evident love of creation, and was learned in medicine, poetry and music. Above all, she maintained a great and faithful love for Christ and his Church."

Note: As the article I link to points out, some caution must be used is selecting books to read about St. Hildegard & her teachings. Many New Agers have tried to turn her into a earlier teacher of what they promote by taking what she wrote & twisting it to suit their interpretation instead of how she really meant it. St Hildegard was a faithful daughter of the Church, like many saints she did have her times of struggle with Church authorities who misunderstood her. But, unlike what many radical feminists claim, she was not rebelious & trying to undermine Church authority in any of her actions. She would be horrified by any attempts to use her or her writings to justify New Age, paganism or Wicca.

Also, many others have tried to undermine her mystical experiences by claiming she was suffering from migraines & that they weren't actually from God. This is a part of the whole attempt to demythologize Christianity & undermine anything miraculous. This is done in order to turn God into something less than He really is so they can justify their refusing to obey Him.

 

What we have with these 2 new Doctors (along with the rest) is God working through these 35 men & women to help us to better understand how we are to live out the faith so that we can grow in holiness as well as conversion from sin. & as we experience this, we will then go on to want to share the good news with others. In sort we will answer God's call to evangelize.

Or as Papa Benedetto said in the homily: "

"This summary of the ideal in Christian life, expressed in the call to holiness, draws us to look with humility at the fragility, even sin, of many Christians, as individuals and communities, which is a great obstacle to evangelization and to recognizing the force of God that, in faith, meets human weakness. Thus, we cannot speak about the new evangelization without a sincere desire for conversion. The best path to the new evangelization is to let ourselves be reconciled with God and with each other (cf. 2 Cor 5:20). Solemnly purified, Christians can regain a legitimate pride in their dignity as children of God, created in his image and redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, and they can experience his joy in order to share it with everyone, both near and far."

This Thursday, 11 October, marks the beginning of the Year of Faith that Papa Benedetto has called for. He summons us "to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the One Savior of the world” (Porta Fidei 6).Part of the call includes us learning what the Church teaches as well as living it out. Our 2 new doctors are sure guides to enable tu to do so & then go out the evangelize the world with the truth that is found in Jesus Christ.

 

 

Buona Festa di La Beata Vergine del Santo Rosario di Pompei

Today is the feast of La Beata Vergine del Santo Rosario di Pompei. This year the feast falls on the 1st Sunday in October. At the Pontifical Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompei (Pontificio Santuario della Beata Vergine del Santo Rosario di Pompei) the 1st Sunday in October is one of the 2 days that the Petition to theVirgin of the Rosary of Pompeii (La Supplica alla Regina del Santo Rosario di Pompei) is formally prayed at noon. (here for other languages)

This prayer was written in 1883 by Blessed Bartolo Longo who started the Shrine. (You can read his story in a previous post) While the prayer is primarrily for those praying at the Shrine, it can be prayed by anyone throughout the world on this day. In doing so, join yourself spiritually to those who are assembled in Pompei. Praying a Rosary with it is acceptable. As is adding the October Prayer to San Giuseppe at the end of the Rosary.

Also, here in the USA it is Respect Life Sunday, so offering up "the end of abortion" & the restoration of a "Culture of Life" as 1 of your intentions is a definite must.

Additionally, with the religious freedom of the Catholics (& all Christians) under attack in the USA, we have another good reason to ask Mary's intercession.

This feast day was originally the feast of Our Lady of Victory after the victory won in 1571 by the combined Christian fleets under Don John of Austria. They achieved a significant naval victory over the Turks in the Straits of Lepanto through the intercession of Our Lady asked by those praying the Rosary in a procession in Rome.

God worked through Mary then & He will work through her now, if we ask Him. So, please pray this prayer today, trusting in God to act to once more bring us victory over the enemies of the Catholic Church, including the "culture of death".

 

Petition to the Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O August Queen of Victories, O Sovereign of Heaven and Earth, at whose name the heavens rejoice

and the abyss trembles. O Glorious Queen of the Rosary, we, your devoted children, assembled (on

this solemn day*) in your Temple of Pompeii, pour out the affection of our hearts and with filial

confidence express our miseries to You.

From the Throne of clemency on which You are seated as Queen, turn, O Mary, your merciful gaze

on us, on our families, on Italy, on Europe and on the whole world. Have compassion on the

worries and trials which embitter our lives. See, O Mother, how many physical and spiritual

dangers and how many calamities and afflictions press upon us.

O Mother, implore the mercy of your Divine Son for us and conquer the hearts of sinners with your

your Shrine. Finally, bless all those who are associated with your Temple of Pompeii and all those

50 Years of "The Name is Bond, James Bond"

 

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the release by United Artists of the 1st James Bond movie to hit the silver screen. That movie was Dr. No & was based on the book by Ian Fleming of the same name.

Most people forget that this wasn't the 1st time Bond made an appearance. In 1954 CBS did a teleplay for its series Climax! based on Casino Royale. It was based on the section of the novel of the same name that took place at the casino. They made Bond an American,  "Card Sense Jimmy Bond". They made Felix Leiter into British agent Clarence Leiter. It didn't go over too well & it was lost for several decades. Fortunately it has since been found & released on video. While not as good as the later movies, it is better than it was given credit for at the time. Casino Royale came out in print in 1953.

By 1962, Harry Saltzman & Albert "Cubby" Broccoli had aquired the rights to film Bond & began with Dr. No. Since then Eon Productions (the company they formed) have released 22 films. The 23rd, Skyfall, is due out next month. In addition they have released 2 other films, 1 based on another Ian Fleming book.

2 other official Bonds have been released by other producers. In 1967 the 1st movie version of Casino Royale was released. Ian Fleming had sold the movie rights to the book in 1955. In 1983 a remake of Thunderball entitled Never Say Never Again was released by Taliafilm (yes, named for Talia Shire of Godfather fame). When the novel, Thunderball, came out, there was a lawsuit because the novel was based on a potential late 50s film script written by Kevin McClory & Jack Whittingham. As a result, McClory got the film rights. He made an agreement with Eon Productions to film it in 1965, with the right for him to remake it after a certain period of time.

Also, in 1967, an Italian spoof of James Bond starring Neil Connory (Sean's younger brother was released by United Artists. The movie has been variously called OK Connery,  Operation Kid Brother in the United States, Operation Double 007 & Secret Agent 00. In addition to Connery, it featured several actors from the Bond movies. It later got the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment.

In addition Daniel Craig did a short film playing Bond for the openning of the 2012 Olympics.
