Given These Speakers, Why Should Any Catholic Church Sponsor a Girl Scout Troop?
Speak Now Girl Scouts (a group started by 2 ex-girl scouts to expose those links has issued a report on the featured speakers at this year's convention. & it is clear that the organization has fully bought into the Planned Parenthood pro-pomiscuity, pro-abortion agenda. In addition, 2 of the speakers have publicly attacked the Catholic Church's stand on abortion.
I will share part of the info on the speakers that Speak Now shared. They compare that info with the official, cleaned up, bios the Girl Scouts had on the convention website. You can go to the link above to read their full report.
1st of all, there is Swanee Hunt. In an 2003 article called Gagged and Bound, Hunt complained about Bush’s pro-life efforts as well as the president’s ban on late term abortion. She goes on to bash the Catholic Bishops for being out of step with the public “Catering to the religious right, Bush is also winning kudos from Catholic bishops, who have just renewed their hard-line stance against contraception as part of their anti-abortion campaign. These men are out of step with the public: 96% of Catholics ignore Church teaching on contraception, and a majority of Americans support a woman’s right to choose.”
Someone had better explain to her that it isn't the Catholic Church that is out of step, it is those who are NOT following Catholic teaching that are out of step with God.
Next up is Sylvia R Garcia. According to the report "Ms. Garcia's organization, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) is quite connected to Planned Parenthood through common goals and collaboration. In June 2011, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and Planned Parenthood Trust of South Texas joined the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH), Catholics for Choice, EMILY’s List, and Annie’s List as co-hosts of a reception celebrating champions for Latina health during the 28th Annual Conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). See this link for Planned Parenthood's announcement of this event with NALEO entitled "Women’s Health Advocates Celebrate Champions of Latina Health""
Her willingness to work with Catholics for Choice makes it clear she supports attacking the Church's teaching on abortion.
We now move on to Annise D. Parker. Here is part of what they have to say about her: "Parker is the first homosexual mayor of a major U.S. city. Parker, who lives with her life partner Kathy Hubbard, campaign treasurer for Planned Parenthood, and their three adopted children, also sits on the board of the pro-abortion girls club, Girls Inc. . . . Parker’s upcoming bid for re-election as Houston Mayor is endorsed by Planned Parenthood. (Originally the GSUSA Speaker bio noted Parker’s “life partner”, but this information was later scrubbed from the bio on the Girl Scouts official website)."
Given that the Girl Scouts claim they have no official stand on sexual preference & that they recently allowed a transgender 7-year-old boy to join a troop in Colorado, why did they scrub the "life partner" info? I can only guess that they were afraid of a backlash if people got wind of the real agenda of 1 of the speakers. It might also make people look at the other speakers a little more closely as well.
I want to look at 1 last speaker, CJ Golden. Golden is a huge promoter of new age ideas. She is the author of TAO OF THE DEFIANT WOMAN, and TAO-GIRLS RULE! Speak Out adds this info: " If you're not familiar with Taoism, consider this article excerpt by Sue Brinkmann, a New Age expert. “Taoism does not admit a Creator who is conscious and personal or who strives for us. Neither does Taoism admit original sin, though it recognizes destructive behavior. In Taoism there is no need for salvation, only enlightenment.” Ms. Golden's website TaoGirl.com links to TaoGirls regular column on GirlZone.com. Both Girl Scouts USA and TaoGirl.com are listed as Content Partners for GirlZone. According to GirlZone "Content Partners support the Girl Zone mission." GirlZone provides listing of resources for girls under to topic of "know your body" including:"Teenwire", aka the explicit Planned Parenthood website for teens TeenGrowth, which provides a whole host of sexual advice for teens including the fact that anti-purity behavior is A-OK, even if your church says its not.
That is only a small part of the story. Again I would suggest you go to the report to see the whole list of speakers including keynote speaker Katie Couric & Catherine B. Reynolds, whose Foundation promotes Margaret Sanger as a role model for her promotion of birth control & founding Planned Parenthood.
Any way the Girl Scouts leadership may try & spin it, their organization does promote Planned Parenthood's agenda. & any involvement in the Girl Scouts is an endorsement of the Girl Scouts endorsement of Planned Parenthood.
For those who are looking for a safe alternative I would recommend American Heritage Girls. I have several friends who have their daughters in the troop at St. Mary's in E DBQ. They are being taught solid Christian principles as well as offering all the other positive aspects of the Girl Scout program without the negatives that the Girl Scouts have wholeheartly embraced. (FYI: This past Summer the Rockford Diocese, which St. Mary's is in, named Msgr. Daniel Deutsch, pastor at Holy Cross, the diocesan chaplain for the American Heritage Girls troops in the diocese.
