"Occupy Wall Street" in Italia
This statue of Mary, along with a crucifix from the 18th-century church of Santi Marcellino & Pietro near St John Lateran square were only a small part of the violence done by the protestors.
According to the parish priest, Fr. Giuseppe Ciucci, this is what he found when he inspected the Church after the "protest": “When I came down, I saw the entrance door had been smashed in.
The Virgin Mary’s statue, which was at the entrance, had been taken away and I saw it had been thrown into the street and smashed.
I went into the sacristy and I saw the door there was also destroyed. The large crucifix at the entrance had been vandalized.”
As I pointed out, this was only a part of the damage done that day in Rome. The protestors torched cars, smashed banks & hurled rocks at police during the clashes.
While I fully support a person's right to protest (even if I disagree with the reasons for it) this was not protesting. This was mob violence. & in the case of the attack on the Church, blasphemous desecration of the church that had nothing at all to do with the reasons behind the protest. But, it does give me some insight into the real spirit behind the protest. & yes, I am saying that there was a demonic spirit operating here. Why else would they do the damage they did to the Crucifix & the statue of Mary? The Crucifix represents Jesus' defeat of Satan & Mary is the woman prophecied in Genesis 3 that God said he would bring this about through.
Another fact that tells me there is more behind this than merely protesting their conditions is who is supporting the "Occupy" movement. The American Nazi Party recenly endorsed the movement. & a huge number of those involved are of a communist/Stalinist socialist leaning as well.
A lot of what I am seeing in the USA these days reminds me of what things were like in pre-WW II Germany or Italia. I am speaking about the moral decay as well as the economic problems The methods they used to bring down the government & bring Hitler & Mussolini into power were similar to what went on in Italia & what is going on in the "Occupy" movement. Given how these people are following the same agenda to set up a socialist state here in the USA, I think my concerns are valid & that we need to be vigilent in doing what we can to prevent this from happenning. It is still not to late to turn us away from the edge.
Note: If you want to see a movie that captures the decedance of pre WWII Germany, even if it is fiction, watch Cabaret. Be sure to note the similarities to where we are today.
The Nazis, Fascists & Communists used violence & terror to gain & maintain control. They used mobs like these to do so. Yes, there are problems. But turing the USA into a socialist state is not the answer. Again, Nazi Germany, Fascist Italia & the Soviet Union show us that socialism doesn't work, it just makes things worse. The Catholic Church has & always will condemn socialism. & while it makes it clear that some things done in the name of capitalism are wrong, it doesn't condemn capitalism. It also aplauds the free market "because of its capacity to guarantee effective results in the production of goods and services." (Compendium of Social Doctrine Par 347) The Church also is a strong supporter of property rights as well. (I would highly recommend reading Rerum Novarum as well as Chapters 6 & 7 of the Compendium for an accurate view of what the Catholic Church actually teaches.) The Church also makes it clear that people are not to get a free handout of everything from the government they want just so they don't have to work. Chapter 6 Section Ic of the Compendium is titled "The duty to work". In other words, the "Occupy" demands for all these freebies from the government are wrong.
I repeat, Iam not saying it is too late to turn things arround. What I am saying is that we have got to stand up & speak the truth to all sides of the political spectrum. The fact that your priest or Bishop is silent ois on the wrong side doesn't excuse you or me from our responsibility.
Also, the very real problems of the economy do not justify what the "Occupy" gang are demanding for a soluton either. & actions like this in Italia are never right.
Here is some video of the destruction of the statue. After seeing this you can't tell me this wasn't intentional.
You can see more pictures of the desecrated statue here.
