Is this a sign of things to come under ObamaCare?
Pro-choice groups try to stop Catholic hospital expansionI highly suspect it is. Given the recent ruling from the EEOC saying
Belmont Abbey must cover birth control in its insurance plan, the refusal to put a conscience clause in any of the Health Care proposals & the like, this opposition may just be another step on the road of trying to destroy the Catholic Church.
That aside, there were a couple of interesting things in the article.
1. "A coalition of women's group, including Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland, are lobbying the state and the county's elected officials against Holy Cross' proposal, saying its restrictions on elective abortions and sterilizations would limit the care available to upcounty residents." Given that there is no hospital up there at this point how would this create a limit that isn't there now? They would still have to travel as far as they do now. This is just a typical pro-abortion confuse the issue with scare tactics by making it sound like they are concerned with people. What is is is an attempt to create a wedge so PP etc can expand & make more money.
The reality is different. "Holy Cross advocates said the "vast majority" of procedures that Holy Cross won't perform, including birth control methods such as vasectomies, are available at outpatient facilities and not acute-care hospitals."
'The impact to the community will not be significant,' said Dr. Ann Burke, director of obstetrics and gynecology at Holy Cross."
& here we have the crux. This is an attack on the Catholic Church & its teachings as well.
2. "Burke added that the hospital has shown a 'dedicated commitment' to lower-income patients and that more than 70 percent of uninsured women having children from upcounty give birth at Holy Cross' current location in Silver Spring. The hospital has the largest obstetric program in the state and has the only outpatient gynecology clinic for the uninsured, Burke added.
'We've proven in many respects that we are the better choice,' Burke said.
Holy Cross supporters have pointed out that the hospital plans to self-finance the projected $267 million hospital, while Adventist would rely on fundraising to help pay for part of its $200 million project."
Did you catch that bit about how Holy Cross helps the poor, without killing the unborn?
Dr. Burke is right. They are the better choice. They will provide proper health care, without promoting the agenda of the "culture of death". They are ready to help the poor & needy. & THE UNINSURED. & Holy Cross already has the funding, thus getting things off the ground much quicker.
It will be interesting to see how things work out. But it is also another warning that we do need to be concerned about what does or doesn't end up in the final Health Care plan. & if it does force a choice, it will force a huge majority of hospitals that call themselves Catholic to show if they are truly Catholic or just another business hiding behind the Catholic label.
