Fans of
The Avengers will recognize the title of this post as a line from the 1960s series. It was the line that John Steed regularly said to Emma Peel near the beginning of the show. The show starred
Patrick Macnee as Steed & over the years co-starred Honor Blackman as Cathy Gale, Diana Rigg as Emma Peel & Linda Thorson as Tara King. A later version,
The New Avengers, co-starred Joanna Lumley as Purdey.
Today is Patrick Macnee's 85th Birthday. This talented actor has been in many great & not so great movies over the years. 1 of his roles was as the young Jacob Marley in the 1951 version of Scrooge (aka A Christmas Carol) & he has appeared in several TV series, including Battlestar Galactica. But he is probably best known for his role as John Steed in The Avengers. Interestingly enough he is 1 of 3 stars of the long running (British) ABC production that went on to be in a James Bond movie. The 1st was Honor Blackman who left the series to star as Pussy Galore in Goldfinger. Diana Rigg played the only woman to marry James Bond, Teresa (Tracy) Di Vicenzo in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. He played Sir Godfrey Tibbett in A View to a Kill.
Here is my favorite openning from The Avengers series:
& here is an interesting video made to a song he recorded with Honor Blackman called Kinky Boots:
Happy 85th Birthday Patrick Macnee
