When you think of
Chuck Norris you think of someone who uses his hands to fight evil. That is because of his reputation as a martial arts legand & action-adventure movie star. Or you think of him doing the same in his television role as Cordell "Cord" Walker on
Walker, Texas Ranger. You don't think of him as someone who would use words to fight evil, especially the evil that is abortion. But that is exactly what he is now doing. & he is doing it in the same style as he always had. he is hitting hard & fast with reality & facts at those areas that are most vulnerable to the truth about abortion.
He quickly starts out with the hard fact of what abortion did: "(T)he rights of the unborn were not only abandoned, but their nature legally reduced to nonhuman." He goes on to show what is done to justify what Justice William Rehnquist said in his dissent was unjustifiable: ''To reach its result, the Court necessarily has had to find within the scope of the Fourteenth Amendment a right that was apparently completely unknown to the drafters of the Amendment.''
"We've continued to cloak the truths about abortion with a vast network of ethical justifications, inconsistencies and avoidances. ''The child will not be taken care of properly,'' ''She's too young to have children,'' ''Aborting unwanted children reduces the number of abused children,'' ''Nobody can tell me right from wrong,'' ''It's a woman's right to choose,'' ''If abortion is outlawed women will return to back-alley abortion clinics,'' etc.
And guilt and accountability are often subsided by an interchange in language: instead of baby we say fetus; instead of killing we say aborting; instead of dissect we say research; instead of extermination chambers we say abortion clinics – ad nauseam. Who could ever imagine the aftermath of three decades of legalized abortions?" He goes on to say: "At the heart of these issues, however, are a couple of questions we all must answer: What is human? Is a fetus human, even in its embryonic stage? And does human life have any intrinsic worth?
Our contemporary world has indoctrinated us to believe humanness cannot be uniquely defined, a fetus is nothing more than a cellular mass, and there is no special value to being human.
I beg to differ. "
He came ot this conclusion when he wife Gena shared her experience when she saw their "embryonic twins" before they were to be surgically placed in her. Although I cannot approve of in-vitro fertilization because of my Catholic faith (see Humanae vitae & Evangelium vitae) I can say that the facts presented had a very positive effect on the Norrises: "Gena later told me it was the most incredible sight she had ever seen. ''It was like looking at something from heaven,'' she explained. That was only 2 days after conception! Whether or not Gena had become pregnant, we were fully convinced at that moment that life begins at conception. Thirty-two weeks later our twins were born." (As Scripture says God can turn all things to good.)
He hits on a good point there. When people see the facts about a pre-born child, when they see the pictures, when the see the sonograms, esp the new 3 & 4D ones, it becomes harder to argue that is just a mass of cells. This is why pro-abortionists are upset that so many crisi pregnancy centers are getting the machines to do sonograms. This is why they are upset about showing pictures of aborted children, showing info about partial birth abortion, claiming it is to gruesome to show. When confronted with the reality of the horror of the process most people quickly realize that abortion is insupportable under any circumstances. (Amazingly, or not when you think about it, most pro-abortion people are OK with showing pictures of the carnage of war. It that case it isn't too gruesome because it suits their political agenda. But enough about that.)
Like most of us in the Pro-Life movement we see the right to life for the pre-born as something that has its roots in the founding philosophy of the United States of America as stated in
"From our Founding Fathers forward, there were some basic creeds by which most Americans lived, and I believe we should go back to if we are to restore civility in our land. Here are three:
1. I believe human life is made in the image of God and as such has intrinsic value, worthy to save.
And, as human beings, all zygotes are ''created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.'' (Preamble of the Declaration of Independence).
2. I believe aborting or destroying human life is morally wrong and goes against God's law.
3. I believe ours and others' mistakes can be forgiven and even turned around for the good."
That last point is why I list those post-abortion healing groups in the right column.
But he doesn't end there. He goes on to encourage those thinking about an abortion to look into alternatives. He recomends the group Option Line (1-800-395-HELP). There are also other groups like Birthright International (with many local centers listed in the phone book) & the local diocesan office of Catholic Charities that can help. In DBQ we have a place called The Pregnancy Center that also offers alternatives to abortion. These should all be listed in your local phone book in the Yellow Pages under Abortion Alternatives. (CAUTION: Occasionally an abortion clinic has disguised themselves to get a listing under that classification but as they are found out they have been removed. & they are found out for their fraud. He also knows that there is more we all need to do, so he has an excellent link to a a list of 50 Ways To Help Unborn Babies and Their Mothers. It contains many things to do to not only change the laws but also positive things to do to help out those who are in a crisi pregnancy.
