Don't you mean milk?
No I mean bilk.
BILK?
Yes, you read it right, BILK.
OK what is bilk?
Bilk is a new type of beer made from milk It is produced by Abashiri Beer in Nakashibetsu, Hokkaido, Japan. This whole thing came about last March when a surplus of milk in the area. The son of a local liquor store owner came up with the idea & contacted the brewery.
"The 31-year-old factory head of the brewery was against the idea, saying that fermentation would be difficult because of the high starch content in milk, but went through a trial and error process to produce the drink anyway.
Since milk has a low boiling point, the brewery took care to control the temperature during the boiling process so the milk wouldn't boil over. After they put beer yeast and hops into the drink and began the fermentation process, the beverage looked and smelled like tea with milk. However, when fermentation was complete and the drink cooled down, it had the same color as beer."
Apparently it has quite a good taste. 1 of the testers, Kaori Takahashi, said: "It's got a fruity taste, so it will probably go well with sweets as well." No word yet on how much of your RDA of calcium is in a serving.
Bilk is comes in a 330 ml bottle (11.16 oz.) & is sold for 380 yen ($3.15). Sorry but it won't be available anywhere near you unless you live in Nakashibetsu. Sales are being limited to 6 liquor stores in the town.
