By now I think everybody is aware of the big scare in Boston that turbned out to be nothing more than a promo for new episodes of
Aqua Teen Hunger Force which is a part of
Cartoon Network's
Adult Swim. The whole thing broke while I was doing my laundry Wed afternoon & so I got to see alive view on
FoxNews of the whole early part of the mess.
Now, I have nothing against the whole idea of the type of promo being done. My question is this: Didn't anyone think to get permission from someone in city hall before putting those things on public property?, Any of the cities?, & why did it take so long for any of them to be noticed?
Thank God it wasn't a test for a future attack. Thank God it wasn't, as Shepard Smith said, a diversionary tactic. & thank God it didn't divert emergency personel or create a problem for an ambulance getting through on time. The most positive thing I can say is that it shows that Boston has a good system set up to deal with potential terrorist attacks.
The mayor of Boston, Tom Menino, is right to demand restitution & look into all legal avenues to do so. Turner Broadcasting Co, Cartoon Network's parent company, was right to apologize. But they (& its parent company Time Warner) should jump ahead of the gun & start working with Boston to pay them back without having to go to court. What will probably happen, though, is that the 2 men arrested, Peter Berdovsky & Sean Stevens, the men hired by the marketing company to put the signs up in Boston, will be the only ones to pay. The marketing company lawyers will find a way to pass the buck to Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network, et al, will have lawyers that claim that they were mislead by the advertising company. Peter Berdovsky & Sean Stevens will probably go to jail. & the news coverage of the whole fiasco has given the show a lot more publicity with the demographic it seeks then the signs ever would have in the 1st place.
