OK, I'll admit it, this is 1 of my guilty pleasures. NO apologies.
That having been said. . . .
Back in the 70s Disco did produce a few good tunes. It also produced a lot of bad ones as well. & in a catagory all its own, The Disco Duck. Then there was Meco (née Domenico Monardo). Probably best known for his space disco version of the Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band which became the the biggest-selling instrumental single in the history of recorded music, as well as the only one ever to be certified platinum (1 million units) by the RIAA.
What is not so well known is that he later turned his talents to the soundtrack of The Wizard of Oz. It is considered by Meco to be his best work. Having enjoyed what he did with Star Wars, I bought the LP. It was The wizard of Oz, it was disco & something more, a lot of fun to listen to. A medley of Over the Rainbow/We're Off to See the Wizard was released as a single.
I was recently watching something on TV which made me think of Meco & Star Wars which naturally lead to thinking of The Wizard of Oz. So I ended up at YouTube & came across the entire album. For some reason each side was done by a different person. Anyhow here it is. Sit back, relax & enjoy as Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Tin Woodsman & The Cowardly Lion disco off to see the Wizard over the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City.
