DBQ Co. Right to Life had it's annual local march for Life this morning. It began at 10:30 am at the Washington Square gazebo in downtown DBQ. Because of the cold temperature the schedule was rearranged a bit from normal. Rather than having the speeches & prayers outside, we walked to the DBQ County Courthouse & ended up at KofC 510's Hall where the sppeches were given. There were about 150 people of all ages who marched. Several of us prayer the Rosary & Divine Mercy chaplet in unison as we walked. & while the temperature was in the low teens, by the time we got to the KofC Hall we were anything but cold.
The 1st speaker was Rev. English from GracePoint Prebyterian Church. He reminded us that the real battle is spiritual & we must prayer, esp for those who work in the abortion industry. He reminded us that at its roots abortion is demonic in origin.
Marian Bourek got up to speak on behalf of a 19 year old woman who chose not to have an abortion because of the Pro-lifers praying/picketting in front of the DBQ PP. She had gone to the DBQ PP to schedule an abortion. She saw Marian who had been 1 of her teachers. Marian talked to her & offered to help. So, instead of the abortion, she was able to talk to her parents, get the support she needed & have the baby. The girl was born on Thanksgiving last year & is now adopted by a loving couple. So far there have are 6 women who are known to have changed their minds since PP opened because of our presence there. & that is only the ones we know for sure. There probably are others as well.
There were several other speakers as well. The program lasted about 1/2 hour.
After the program there was a chili luncheon.
Later today 7 buses will be leaving from the DBQ area to go to the National March in DC. They go with the prayers & support of all of us who cannot go.
(Added 3:06 pm) Just discovered the TH put up a small article about the March:
New - 12:48 PM - Walkers turn out to oppose Roe v. WadeAbout 100 walkers marched from Washington Square to the Dubuque County Courthouse on Saturday to proclaim their opposition to Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion on Jan. 22, 1973. Many of those walkers will help fill seven buses this evening en route to Washington, D.C. for Monday’s national Walk for Life. “We are so blessed to have about 400 people again from this area going to Washington,” said local organizer Marian Bourek.
See the full story in Sunday’s Telegraph Herald.
I'll comment more on Monday about the full article. But once again this makes my oft made point about how the media tends to downplay our numbers while upplaying those of the pro-aborts.
