Like I Said - I Ain't Afraid of No FOCA!

In December, I put up a post, I Ain't Afraid of No FOCA!. In it I talked about a Catholic Hospital performing sterilizations. I said: "Here is more evidence that The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) aka A Licence to Kill the Unborn, won't be the threat to a huge number of (alledgedly) Catholic hospitals that it should be." It was the latest of several posts how the claim that FOCA was a threat to Catholic hospitals wasn't really as big a threat as it may seem. Not because it didn't threaten authentic Catholic hospitals. Rather because there are so few that are authenticly Catholic.
At this point in time, with all the outcry by the US Bishops & a lot of Pro-Life groups, it is more likely that rather than passing a version of FOCA, that it will be done piecemeal through executive orders, new regs by the appropriate agencies & bits & pieces buried in various pieces of legislation. Either way my initial premise still stands. & with every little bit, you will see the true colors of most of these alledgedly "Catholic" come out. The Sisters who founded these hospitals have got to be weeping in Heaven about how these institutions have betrayed them by straying from the faith.
Meanwhile, where the Bishops are silent, these hospitals will continue to play the "We are Catholic" game. But where the Bishops won't let them, many of them will become secular hospitals, making official what they already are.
Sadly, I present the latest proof that I am right in what I said (with a couple of comments here & there by me):

Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates have yet to re-introduce the radical Freedom of Choice Act in this Congressional session, but the effects of the pro-abortion bill are already taking hold. That's because one Catholic hospital in Boston has agreed to go back on its pro-life policies in a merger that ultimately promotes abortion. Where is Cardinal O'Malley?
FOCA is a dangerous bill that, in its last form, would overturn hundreds of pro-life state laws and could be used to force medical centers to do abortions. The nation's Catholic bishops have warned that one of the dangerous effects of FOCA is that it could result in shutting down Catholic hospitals that do not want to allow abortions on site.
However, the Caritas Christi Health Care network is moving in the opposite direction.
A St. Louis-based company, Caritas has joined in a bid to provide government-subsidized health insurance in Massachusetts. Caritas Christi, is joining with Centene Corporation in a bid for the government contract that would include coverage for abortion. What did Jesus say baout love of money? That is what this is about, not providing health care.
In an interview with the Boston Globe, Nancy Turnbull, an associate dean at the Harvard School of Public Health, complained that Caritas doesn't do abortions. As a result, she opposes its bid to provide state-subsidized health insurance through the Commonwealth Care program.
In response, Caritas released a statement last month saying the new venture "will contract with providers, both in and out of the Caritas network, to ensure access to all services required by the authority, including confidential family planning services."
Deal Hudson, a prominent Catholic author, says Catholic hospital officials must resist the urge to build bridges with a pro-abortion government.
"The first Catholic hospital system to bend to the pressure is Caritas Christi, owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Boston," he writes. Again I ask, where is Cardinal O'Malley?
"Only a few days ago, maybe eager to cozy up to the Obama administration and Sebelius, Caritas Christi announced a joint venture with the Centene Corporation to join a state-mandated health-insurance program that would include coverage for abortion and contraceptives -- what the Catholic hospital system calls 'confidential family-planning services," he explained.
Hudson says FOCA may not become law, but he sees the Obama administration as doing everything possible to implement it and to frighten Catholics hospitals like Caritas. Although I respect Deal Hudson, in this case Caritas isn't frightened, but their caving in willingly will make it harder for those on the edge to resist.
"Although the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) has not yet been introduced, the strategy of the Obama administration appears to be pursuing the equivalent outcomes of FOCA without passing FOCA itself," he says. Like I said. . . .
"Putting someone like Governor Sebelius at the helm of Health and Human Services will put tremendous pressure on all health-care institutions to provide abortions under the cover of 'women's health care,'" he said.

    You seem surprised by this.

Cardinal O'Malley brought in Bryan Hehir and Tom Reilly to facilitate abortion at Catholic Hospitals as soon as the Democrats had everyone in place.

This has been in the works for years.

O'Malley threw out an orthodox rector at St. John's Seminary because he wouldn't teach heresy and the heretics were getting upset.

If you knew what was going on behind the scenes, you'd be appalled.

O'Malley has been putting on the dog and pony show for years. He's as phony as a three dollar bill.

    Carol,

I didn't mean it to sound like I was surprized. I wasn't. It was more of a rhetorical question. I was trying to point out that rather than doing what he should he was being silent. Like way too many Bishops are. Maybe I was just a little to subtle.
