An investigation into whether Eluana Englaro was murdered has been opened in Italia. The pro-life group Truth and Life Committee prompted the investigation with the filing of a lawsuit. Under Italiano law prosecutors must act on such suits even if they believe there is no evidence of wrongdoing. 14 people are under investigation, including her father Beppino, Eluana's anesthesiologist, Amato De Monte, and members of the medical team that should have been providing her with proper medical care.
Udine Chief Prosecutor Antonio Niancardi said that the investigation was ''a due act'. That' means it was prompted by a complaint filed by a third party. Mario Palmaro, the head of the pro-life group, explained that the 13-page lawsuit "is a very detailed report in which we implicate Beppino Englaro, the doctor and nurses, and the heads of the La Quiete clinic'." Meanwhile, it turns out that while not banning all forms of euthenasia, there is at least 1 country where Eluana could never have been murdered, Israel. Israel has a passive euthanasia law that prohibits withholding nourishment and liquids from the patient, as well as "disconnecting" those people who are in a "vegetative state", because it is understood that the person cannot make the decision. The law was passed under the government of Ariel Sharon. In 2006 Sharon fell into a coma & is protected by the law. (Although in this case his children Omri and Guilad want to keep him alive.)
