I'm Not Surprized by This Reaction, They Don't Want the Truth Out About How They Aren't Really Catholic Religious
The National Coalition of American Nuns finds the January 30, 2009 announcement of a Visitation of the U.S. apostolic congregations of women religious by the Congregation for Religious Life and Societies of Apostolic Life to be confusing, questionable, and biased. For who? Not for me, it is clear that the Vatican wants the truth & you don't. Some of your later statments prove this. The Vatican's expressed concern about the "quality of life" of women's communities causes us to wonder why they are not equally concerned about communities of men religious. This is smoke & mirrors to distract people. How do you know they aren't just because they are focusing on women religious 1st? Besides, the Vatican already had 1 Visitation for seminaries, now this, & men's religious are probably next. They know that they all can't be done at once. But they think the average person will be too dumb to realize that. As I said, smoke & mirrors. This double standard puzzles and perplexes us. Again, more smoke & mirrors. They try to make it look like the Vatican is being sexist. The truth is, rather than dealing with 2 problems the Vatican is dealing with them one at a time. This will help to avoid the potential confusion that the NCAN wants to cause & is trying to cause even here.
We are suspicious of the true intent behind this Visitation as we recall some recent remarks of Cardinal Franc Rodé, the prefect of the Vatican agency conducting the inquiry. In September 2008, at a conference on consecrated life in Massachusetts, Cardinal Rodé spoke of a "pseudo-aggorniamento" (Is this a relative to the pseudo-Spirit of Vatican II that the NCAN & LCWR are trying to push in place of the real Spirit of Vatican II?) in religious life. Do his remarks reveal a difficulty with understanding contemporary women religious? No, I'd say it shows that he has a good grasp of the real problem & is trying to bring it out into the light, something you don't want.
If the Vatican believes that such a study is needed, it should be consonant with the Vatican II principle of subsidiarity. (Talk about twisting what Vatican II really ment!) Therefore, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), the organization that best represents the more than 400 religious communities, Notice 2 things, which group they want & which group they fail to mention. The members of the LCWR are the religious orders that are dying. They totally ignore the 1 group that has orders that are growing because they are faithful to the Church & the true Spirit of Vatican II, the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious. The only thing the LCWR would best represent is their agenda to destroy the Catholic Church. should have been asked to conduct the study. Here we get to the heart of the matter, they want to conduct the study themselves so they can cover up the truth, not get it out. & by doing so, continue to promote their destructive agenda unhindered. Instead, the Vatican named Mother Mary Clare Millea, Superior-General of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, as the sole Apostolic Visitor.
Connecticut-born, Mother Millea resides in Rome (HORRORS!) and oversees a small congregation of approximately 1,000 sisters, (larger than many, if not most, of these LCWR congregations that she will visit) with relatively few sisters in the U.S.(SO WHAT?) Since the visitation will focus on the "major" communities in the U.S., her community does not match this profile. Who's profile? Yours? Of course not, that is the very idea, to have someone look at things with a fresh point of view. Not the New Age, Wiccan view the LCWR promotes. Knowing the U.S. Church landscape, LCWR is more knowledgeable to identify one or more appropriate Apostolic Visitors (if by knowledgeable & appropriate you mean who can best cover up & hide the truth) to oversee the study. The Vatican's choice is not only culturally insensitive, (Here we go again with the smoke & mirrors! They try to hide behind PC language saying that unless the person appointed buys into their agenda this person won't understand us. They are really saying we want someone to sugar coat our errors & ignore the truth, that it is our deviating from the true Spirit of Vatican II as well as orthodox Catholicism that is killing us off.) but it also reveals a bias in favor of an older style of religious life for women. (As opposed to your bias against orthodox Catholicism?)
Furthermore, the visitator's report will be "confidential" and the visitation will be conducted through communication with "superiors" and not community members. Such processes are contrary to the transparency and equality in which the vast majority of US communities have engaged over the past nearly 50 years. (More smoke & mirrors! The word equality is again a clue to part of their true agenda, women's ordination. The rest of this section is about the fact that they aren't happy that they aren't being given a bigger forum to spread their lies.)
Many religious feel this visitation is unnecessary. (Only if you have something to hide.) Some think it a waste of time and church resources. (Again, only if you define waste as bringing the truth to life rather than using the resources to push your New Age heresies.) The National Coalition of American Nuns views the Visitation as an opportunity for women's voices to be heard in the Church. (Read, we are opressed & marginalized. The reality is that they know their voices are heard, & the message rejected what they are pushing are heresies. Something the Church will never listen to & follow.) It is our hope that the Vatican will use this Visitation to learn about the lived experience of US women religious so that women and men together may build an inclusive church without gender discrimination. A hope that is doomed to failure. The "inclusive church" they are talking about is code for several things, but especially women's ordination. It also includes approving birth control, abortion, homosexual marriages & a whole slew of other things that the Catholic Church will never allow because they are opposed to God's will.

For goodness sakes. Why do some people consider these impending visitations as a police action to correct and shape up the nuns and brothers. As a religious, I personally look forward to such a visit. This is a time for dialogue, prayer and growth. We have much to say to Rome and Rome has much to say to us. I think we can learn from one another. Formation is a life long process for all of us and such a visit will bring blessing, direction and peace. This is not about power, gestapo police work or fixing. Rome is aware that Religious today work very hard, in many cases too hard. I think Rome will tell us to take hetter care of ourselves, to pray more and to rest. These visitations are good and not to be feared or used to justify anger with the way religious life has evolved since Vatican II. Religious life is a constantly changing mode. I celebrate that. We embrace change. This is not new. Since the beginning of the church we have exchanged dialogue and growth with the Church institution. So stop acting like Cardinal Police Dog is coming to fix the wicked religious. The visitors will be greeted with warmth, receptivity and the usual openness of religious. Finally, I urge readers to be sensitive to religous working in the the church today. We work very hard. Too often we don't take days off and too often we over work ourselves. I've taught for over 15 years and while we are not better or even special, we are different. We have made our vows and we try our best. Sometimes we fail and sometimes we succeed but always we try. So have some respect and please bless us with your prayers, warmth and support. The nuns you are so critical of are praying for you.
