Finally, A Statement About Planned Parenthood From the DBQ Chancery

Unfortunately it isn't from the Archbishop who still maintains his silence.

The statement was put out by DBQ Catholic Charities Office. It was printed in this weekend's Witness. Not on the front page, where it should have been, but on the opinion page.
So, as I start out, I wish to applaud Jim Yeast & staff for doing the right thing & speaking out. I wish it had been sooner but they did. & in the end that is what matters.
The article's title says it all: Planned Parenthood Is not good for Dubuque. Given the space limitations, it wisely doesn't attempt to cover all the reasons that PP is bad, rather it focuses on 1 key point, the difference in how PP & DBQ Catholic Charities handles a client who is dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. The reality is PP doesn't have the best interest of anyone but itself. As the article points out PP offers an instant quick fix. This is not a real solution, it is "a rush to judgment".
The article shows how Catholic Charities works with the client to make sure that the women makes "a healthy choice for herself and her child". As the article rightly point out, there are only 2 choices that meet this criterion "the birthmother raising the child herself or placing the child in a loving and caring adoptive family".
While I wish the article would have come on a little stronger in its call to speak out against PP, it does end with a challenge to do the right thing. "Let's stand up for our children and for Life."

(Added 24 August 2008 7:07 AM) I just opened the TH & found that they also printed the article in its entirely. In the last few days there have been letters from the DBQ office of Birthright & The Clarity Clinic in the paper. While I will keep praying & working for PP to close, I have seen 1 good thing come out of their arrival. It has provided publicity for these groups who are the ones who really care about the people involved in the unplanned pregnancy. Despite its claims of being non-profit, PP is out to make money from its racist, eugenicist programs, abortions are a huge part of that goal (ripping off us taxpayers is the other). PP may plan evil, but God will bring good out of it. (Romans 8:28)
Memo to Archbishop Hanus: This article doesn't let you off the hook. You still have the responsibility to personally speak out.
