Literally!!!!
"Japanese scientists said Friday they had derived stem cells from wisdom teeth, opening another way to study deadly diseases without the ethical controversy of using embryos."
National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science researchers said that "they created stem cells of the type found in human embryos using the removed wisdom teeth of a 10-year-old girl."
About the discovery, team leader Hajime Ogushi said: "This is significant in two ways. One is that we can avoid the ethical issues of stem cells because wisdom teeth are destined to be thrown away anyway. Also, we used teeth that had been extracted three years ago and had been preserved in a freezer. That means that it's easy for us to stock this source of stem cells."
The report goes on to talk about the possibilities from this discovery. Most people have their wisdom teeth extracted. This creates a wide source of genetic codes. & as the article points out, because of the ability to store the teeth, they could help the person whose tooth it is later in life.
I realize that this news won't make the culture of death throw in the towel when it comes to embryonic stem cells. But as more & more evidence mounts that there is no need for using embryos their house of cards will have to collapse. & the sooner the better.
