Dubuque IS DOOMED!!!!!

"A comet packing the equivalent destructive energy of 6 million Hiroshima bombs" is heading towards DBQ. The comet is expected to ignite every building within a 500 mile radius of DBQ (There goes my hometown of Oelwein! as well as most of Iowa) with a blast of hot air traveling 1,340 mph, vaporize Lake Michigan & wipe out Chicago by causing a 9.2 magnitude earthquake.

At least that is what the article on the front page of today's TH says.

So, when is this horrible catastrophe supposed to happen? & why isn't it making headlines in other papers or being reported on any of the MSM or Cable News shows? Why aren't President Bush & Governor Culver doing anything to evacuate the area?

Maybe because what I just described is the plot of a British made for TV movie entitled Futureshock: Comet Impact.

A piece of the comet breaks hits near Ireland creating a tsunami resulting in the discovery of the comet & where it is heading. The results are a decision to crate up the Statue of Liberty & evacuate the entire Eastern half of the USA. They will then focus cameras on DBQ to watch what happens during the impact.

While this looks like an interesting plot line, I am not happy that they have not chosen to do any of the filming in DBQ. I hope they have at least scouted the area to be sure that we are portrayed accurately for our video swan song. While we may have been able to pass for Cleveland in F*I*S*T, or Boston in Field of Dreams, there is no way anywhere else could pass for DBQ. Or Oelwein for that matter. Remember, they filmed Take This Job & Shove It in DBQ. This is where the movie is supposed to take place & they knew that they had to get it right. They are doing some of the filming in the Phoenix, AZ area. The desert should be good for some of the after shots. I also wonder how well the average DBQer will be portrayed. I am looking forward to seeing what actually happens in the final product. This could either be really good, or REALLY BAD! Let's hope it turns out good.

As for another part of the plot,I find it interesting that there is no talk of evecuating any of Eastern Canada. Apparently, the Mother Country doesn't care about its largest commonwealth partner.

Anyhow, for now, its only a movie. No comet is out there. DBQ is safe. We hope!
