's last track was recorded. (Well, to be technically correct it was yesterday, but that would screw up the wordplay on the lyrics.)
1 April 1967 The Beatles recorded the last song that would be used for the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. They recorded a reprise of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was done in the style of a reprise at the end of what purports to be a live concert by Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. (The last song, A Day in the Life would be considered the encore.)
The Sgt. Pepper album is considered by many to be 1 of the 1st, if not the 1st, concept albums ever done. The Beatles had quite touring in 1966 & this was their 1st album to come out after they stopped. The concept is that this is supposed to be a live recording of a concert done by Sgt. Pepper & his band. (Although since it is obvious that The Beatles could never duplicate what they did on the album in a live performance, belief must be suspended to be able to think that Sgt. Pepper's group could do what they couldn't.) The album cover is supposed to be a picture of all the famous people at that concert.
The album has been called the most influential album of all time. & I'm sure it is. They used the techniques available at the time in ways rarely or never thought of before. The creativity comes across from beginning to end. But that aside, the album is just a plain joy to listen to.
This is what the CD liner notes say about the recording of the track: "Recording commenced in studeo one at Abbey Road on April 1, 1967. Album version mixed from take nine. Writer: Paul. Lead vocal: John Paul and George. Producer: George Martin. Recording engineer: Goeff Emerick. Second engineer: Richard Lush."
That's enough history, here is the song. Enjoy!
