Christians, to the Paschal Victim
Offer your thankful praises!
A Lamb the sheep redeems:
Christ, who only is sinless,
Reconciles sinners to the Father.
Death and life have contended
in that combat stupendous:
The Prince of life, who died, reigns immortal.
Speak, Mary, declaring
What you saw, wayfaring.
"The tomb of Christ, who is living, The glory of Jesus' resurrection;
Bright angels attesting,
The shroud and napkin resting.
Yes, my Christ my hope is arisen:
To Galilee he goes before you."
Christ indeed from death is risen,
our new life obtaining.
Have mercy, victor King, ever reigning!
Amen. Alleluia.
(Victimae Paschali, Easter Sunday Mass, Latin Rite)
When You descended to death, 0 Immortal Life,
You destroyed the Abyss by the radiance of Your divinity.
And when You raised the dead from the depths of the earth
all the heavenly powers cried out:
"O Giver of Life, Christ our God, glory be to You."
Your resurrection, O Christ, our Savior,
the Angels in heaven praise with hymns;
make us, on earth, also worthy with a pure heart
to extol and give glory to You.
(Troparians, Resurrection Matins, Byzantine Rite)
Although You descended into the grave, O Immortal,.
You destroyed the power of Death.
You arose as a victor, O Christ God.
You told the women bearing ointment: "Rejoice!"
You gave peace to Your Apostles
and resurrection to the Fallen.
(Kontakian, Resurrection Matins, Byzantine Rite)
You, O King and Lord,
have fallen asleep
in the flesh as a mortal man,
but on the third day You arose again.
You have raised Adam
from his corruption and made Death powerless.
You are the Pasch of Incorruption.
You are the Salvation of the world.
(Exapostilarion, Resurrection Matins, Byzantine Rite)
BUONA PASQUA!
