John Edwards to orthodox Catholics: *#@& YOU!

Apparently John Edwards not only approves of language that would make any decent person blush, he also approves of Catholic bashing. That is if you are an orthodox Catholic. According to a report from the Catholic League for Religious & Civil Rights, Amanda Marcotte who was hired as Blogmaster and Melissa McEwan who was hired as the Netroots Coordinator have often shown their anti-Catholic bias in their blogging. (As you will remember from a recent post, Ms Macotte is known for her love of using obscentities to get her point accross.)
Bill Donohue, president of Catholic League has called on Edwards to fire them. The reasons given in an article on their website cite the following examples to support their call: "“Writing on the Pandagon blogsite, December 26, 2006, Amanda Marcotte wrote that ‘the Catholic church is not about to let something like compassion for girls get in the way of using the state as an instrument to force women to bear more tithing Catholics.’ On October 9, 2006, she said that ‘the Pope’s gotta tell women who give birth to stillborns that their babies are cast into Satan’s maw.’ On the same day she wrote that ‘it’s going to be bad PR for the church, so you can sort of see why the Pope is dragging ass.’ And on June 14, 2006, she offered the following Q&A: ‘What if Mary had taken Plan B after the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit,’ to which she replied, ‘You’d have to justify your misogyny with another ancient mythology.’

“On November 21, 2006, Melissa McEwan said on AlterNet that ‘some of Christianity’s most prominent leaders—including the Pope—regularly speak out against gay tolerance.’ On November 1, 2006, on her blogspot Shakespeare’s Sister, she referred to President Bush’s ‘wingnut Christofascist base’ when lashing out against religious conservatives. On February 21, 2006, she attacked religious conservatives again, this time saying, ‘What don’t you lousy motherf---ers understand about keeping your noses out of our britches, our beds, and our families?’ Currently, the very first entry under ‘Greatest Hits’ on her website [where she brags about being appointed to Edwards’ campaign] is titled, ‘On C---s’. In her article she boasts that she is the ‘Queen C--- of F--k Mountain.’"
The National Review On Line has an article by Kathryn Jean Lopez entitled Unholy Hire that adds more evidence to that of the Catholic League's. (I won't quote any more of her writings as Ms. Marcotte's tirades are offensive, plain & simple. You can follow the link to the National Review article if you want to see more including her attacks on anyone, Catholic or protestant who opposes her views on sex, abortion & birth control.)
Amazingly, The New York Times has picked up on Catholic League's complaints (Edwards’s Bloggers Cross the Line, Critic Says). That it calls the Catholic League "a conservative religious group" doesn't surprize me. That is their code for fundamentalist group that is way out there. It goes on to report that: "Mr. Edwards’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Palmieri, said Tuesday night that the campaign was weighing the fate of the two bloggers." We shall see. & even CNN has picked up on it. (Video: CNN covers Amanda Marcotte scandal)
And now, Michelle Malkin starring in Hot Air Theatre's latest production "When Angry German Boy met Angry John Edwards for President Blogger". RATED: TV MA (L) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
I think maybe Sen. Edwards better take the follwing suggestion from Kathryn Jean Lopez: ""Marcotte is clearly a staffer who should have been vetted a bit more. She represents someone John Edwards ought not be employing and serves as a warning to other candidates as they gather blogosphere supporters on their payrolls on their road to the White House. The lesson is fairly simple: Google first." Good advice!
According to a report on Salon.com Edwards has taken her advice & fired them, maybe. "Speculation from sources that the two bloggers might be rehired was bolstered by Jennifer Palmieri, a spokeswoman for the Edwards campaign, who said in an e-mail that she would "caution [Salon] against reporting that they have been fired. We will have something to say later." "
Stay tuned for further developments.
Other takes on Ms. Marcotte:
The Pandagon Papers Iowahawk [Strong content warning] Leave it to an Iowa boy to come up with this fun twist on the whole thing, way to go! Do you think you can sell it to Michelle Malkin for a future showing on Hot Air Theatre?
