Why we have to defeat Sen. Harkin in 2008

Congress to Open 2nd Stem Cell Showdown (excerpt of article from Breitbart.com)

"Democrats say the public demanded action by casting ballots for stem cell supporters in the November election.

Focusing on preliminary "alternatives" like the amniotic stem cells won't fool that public, added Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

"If we truly want to cure and treat diseases that afflict so many people in this country, our nation's top scientists should be allowed to pursue stem cell research of all kinds, be it embryonic, adult or amniotic," he said. "

I discovered this the other day on another blog Dad29. In it he say the following about Harkin's mindset (I agree totally.):

"Nothing like a little "scientific research" in the minds of Dr. Mengele and Sen. Harkin (D-Iowa)"

(paragraphs 2 & 3 of the above quote from the article)

"The Senator wants to use taxpayer money to finance this, as did the Nazis."

It shames me to think that we keep re-electing Harkin to the US Senate. His mindset in justifying what he knows goes against Natural Law, let alone against the teachings of the Catholic Church to which he alledges to be a faithful member is exactly the same as that of the Nazis justifying experimentation on the Jews in prison camps. He doesn't see the embyo as a human being any more than did the Nazis saw Jews as human beings. An embryo IS a human being with certain "inalienable rights" including life endowed by his creator, just as the Declaration of Independence says.

I don't know if any good will come out of using embryonic/fetal stem cells. So far it hasn't. But that is besides the point. It is never moral to do these types of experiments using human beings who have not/cannot give their consent. Embryos are not disposable tissue any more than the Jews were. Sadly there are people out there who still feel that way about embryos &/or Jews. We cannot be silent. We have to speak out. We need to call people to repent of their sin of devaluing life. We need to call people to turn to Jesus. I know this isn't popular. Look at what happened to the Old Testament prophets when they called the people to repent. Look at what happened to John the Baptist. Look at what happenned to Jesus. Look ath Jesus' disciples & the early Christians. They cost of speaking the truth may be just as high for some of us. But the fruit of paying this cost is that someday life will be respected from conception on. So, until that day each of us has to do what we can to bring it about. Do so by prayer & relying on the Holy Spirit to guide your words & actions that follow.

In the meantime, please pray for Sen. Harkin that God will change his heart & turn Harkin away from this path of destruction that he is on.
