Why We Still Love Lucy

Today is the 100th Anniversary of Lucille Ball's birth. While most of us think of "I Love Lucy", (& those that followed) when we think of her, she had a long career in the movies & radio before she ever appeared on television. & while some of her appearances in movies were comedies, she was also cast in a variety of other roles. Orobably her biggest was opposite Henry Fonda in The Big Street, in which she plays a paralyzed nightclub singer & Fonda portrays a busboy who idolizes her. One of her earliest appearances was in the Three Srtooges short "Three Little Pigskins" where she played a blond. This was long before she dyed her hair the trademark red. She later had a lead role in the Marx Brothers movie "Room Service".

Her are a couple of her movie appearances as well as some of my favorite scenes from I Love Lucy:

Here are Lucy's scenes from Three Little Pigskins:

Here is Room Service(she 1st appears about 6-1/2 minutes in):

Later, Harpo appeared on her show & they did the bit from Duck Soup with a twist, as you will see with this clip that shows the original then the Lucy version:

1 of my favorites was the episode where Lucy dreamt she was the last of the McGillicuddys & has to be fed to a 2-headed dragon (sorry but I could only find the colorized version):

It wouldn't be a salute without the famous Vitameatavegimin bit:

This scene where Lucy & Ethel get a job in a candy factory has often been parodied:

& what is definitely 1 of my all time favorites, Lucy pretending she is Italiano so she can prepare for a part in an Italiano movie:
