NARAL's Worst Nightmare - The 2012 Republican Presidential Hopefuls

The 2011 Iowa Republican Party sponsored Ames Straw Poll is less than 2 weeks away. & it turns out that this year's list of potential nominees in NARAL's worst nightmare. Last Thursday , NARAL policy directors briefed reporters on a new report analyzing the records & statements of 15 current or potential GOP candidates. They listed 12 of them as threats to what they call a woman's right to murder her child. Yes they say abortion, but that is exactly what abortion is, murder. & that is what they are advocating.

1 of the 12 that made the list is Rudy Giuliani. While it is highly unlikely that he will run, for some reason they opted to include him. Not only that, he came off the best fotr them as they said his statements over the years have been conflicting.

The rest didn't get off so easy. Herman Cain hasn't held an elected office so he doesn't have a record. But he has made enough statements to make it clear where he stands, & it is clearly Pro-life.

AS for those who have been in Congress NARAL looked at their voting record. They listed the number of votes each made on "abortion & reproductive rights". But I was unable to find out what those votes were or why they decided they were the important votes. So without those facts, I have to wonder if some of what they consider OK votes (of the few they did) were more on proceedural issues than anything else.

Michelle Bachmann had a perfect Pro-life voting record according to NARAL. Ron Paul was given a 93% "anti-choice" ranking. Rick Santorium voted "anti-choice" in 72 of the 74 votes he made in the US Senate. They also added to that count 27 votes while in the US House of Representatives. Newt Gingrich also was said to have voted "anti-choice" in 72 of 74 votes.

The rest of the candidates they looked at were governors. With the exception of Sarah Palin, everyone of them was considered to have a mixed record by NARAL. But even then, they saw them as strongly Pro-life. & that is exactly what they mean by the term "anti-choice", that the candidate is Pro-life, unlike NARAL.

NARAL knows the tide is turning Pro-life. & they are scared. They realize how important the 2012 Presidential election is. & it is. But the Congressional elections & state elections are just as important in many ways. & now is the time that we need to make it clear that Pro-life is the only acceptable stand for those running. & in Nov of 2012 we must ensure that a strong Pro-life majority is in charge in the US Congress. (As well as Iowa & other states.)
