Oh, Canada, PC Language Only, In All Thy Sons Demand.
Perché? Because the song uses the word faggot 3 times.
The ruling came about as a result of a listener complaint against St. John's radio station CHOZ-FM. He complained that the word faggot is "extremely offensive" to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
OK has anyone actually listened to the song. I always took the song to be making fun of those people who are envious of others success because they don't have the talent. So they make fun, mock & put down the people who have succeeded, in this case, as rock musicians.
The Council's ethics code states: "broadcasters shall ensure that their programming contains no abusive or unduly discriminatory material or comment which is based on matters of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status or physical or mental disability." So if using "faggot" in a way that makes fun of prejudices is "extremely offensive" when are they going to ban Billy Joel's Only the Good Die Young that clearly mocks Catholic beliefs? That song is very offensive to many Catholics. Oh wait, Christianity & Catholicism in particular are fair game to mock in Canada (& elsewhere). & if you are a Catholic School in Ontario you can't discriminate against those who oppose Catholic teaching.
