State authorities searched a West Philadelphia doctor's office today after receiving word from federal and state drug agents who suspected he might be performing late-term abortions, law-enforcement sources said last night.
FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration agents executed a search warrant on the 3800 block of Lancaster Avenue, Powelton Village on Thursday, FBI spokesman J.J. Klaver said tonight.
That block includes the offices of Dr. Kermit B. Gosnell, but Klaver declined to elaborate on the investigation, or even confirm that Gosnell was a subject of the probe.
However, law-enforcement sources said the FBI, DEA and state drug agents who executed the search warrant had been investigating Gosnell, who is in his late 60s, on suspicion of alleged distribution of prescription painkillers in violation of federal law.
