Today is the feast of St. Ignatius of Constantinople. He was born about 799 & died 23 October, 877; son of Emperor Michael I and Procopia. He was castrated & mprisoned for political reasons in a monastery in 813 by Leo the Armenian. In 847 Ignatius succeeded to the Patriarchate of Constantinople. He refused Communion to his maternal uncle Bardas Caesar because Bardas repudiated his wife & committing incestual intercourse with his daughter-in-law. In revenge Bardus arranged for the banishment of the patriarch to the island of Terebinthus from 858 to 867.
A Bishop who refused Communion to a politician because that politician failed to uphold Catholic teaching. Criticized by dissidents he stood fast. Sounds like a good model for today's Bishops to me.

What an excellent post! There are some bishops today who have the courage to stand up for the truth, but they must all do this since they are called to fight for the Church, even to death. We must pray for our priests and bishops, and especially for the Holy Father, to stand fast against the enemies of the Church, even those who are within Her walls.
