Live Action Protesting YouTube Censorship
SAN JOSE, California, August 3, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Live Action Films, the pro-life media campaign famed for its undercover videos exposing questionable practices by Planned Parenthood employees, is launching a petition to combat the censoring of their videos on YouTube.
In recent months, YouTube has pulled two Live Action videos without explanation, although the videos do not appear to have violated the video sharing website's policy. In addition, Live Action says YouTube issued a "warning strike" against the group's YouTube account, and has not answered Live Action's request for an explanation of their actions.
The first video contains undercover footage from a Tuczon, Az. Planned Parenthood where an employee tells a young girl that images of aborted children are "not real." Following a warning for graphic content, the video shows a series of authentic images of unborn children killed in abortions.
The second banned video, which exposed an Alabama Planned Parenthood's felony cover-up of statutory rape, prompted Alabama's attorney general to begin investigating Planned Parenthood.
"It is an outrage for YouTube to arbitrarily censor a video that has sparked a state investigation and national concern," said Live Action president Lila Rose. "The people of Alabama and the public at large have a right to know how Planned Parenthood really treats vulnerable young girls."
In September of last year, YouTube pulled a Live Action video revealing a Los Angeles Planned Parenthood's willingness to accept a donation earmarked to abort a black child because "the less black kids out there the better."
"We are concerned that YouTube staff is censoring videos based on ideology, despite YouTube's claim to uphold fair standards," states the Live Action petition.
The group urges YouTube to "restore their customer's trust and live up to its own rules" by reinstating the two most recently banned videos, and removing the "strike" against the "liveactionfilms" account.
Further, the petition calls for YouTube to "assure Live Action and the YouTube's community that YouTube is truly opposed to ideological censorship and is taking steps to prevent this from happening again," and to "provide Live Action with an email and phone contact representative at YouTube to ensure that any potential future issues are resolved promptly."
