So, Does LarryD Have Any Good Recipes????

Some years ago I 1st learned that the guinea pig's biggest cousin, the capybara, had been declared a fish by the Vatican & it was OK to eat it on Fridays during Lent. & that permission may be worldwide, not just for Venezuela.

Now it turns out that there is another rodent that the Vatican has also declared OK to eat on Fridays during Lent, the muskrat.

Unlike the capybara, the permission to eat muskrat is limited to parts of the Archdiocese of Detroit. (Muskrat love? It's a Lent thing for downriver area)  In fact, it turns out 1 parish has an annual muskrat dinner fundraiser, much like many parishes have a Friday Fish Fry in Lent.
No thank you. I'll stick to tuna, salmon, shrimp, etc.  I agree with what then Diocese of Lansing Bishop Kenneth Povish put it "anyone who could eat muskrat was doing penance worthy of the greatest of the saints."
As for me, this is the way I prefer to enjoy  muskrats:

So Larry, how do you serve them up for your young 'uns????

H/T: The Badger Catholic (In Detroit, Catholics are allowed to eat muskrat on Fridays during Lent because of historical dispensation from 1700s. ) BTW Matt, please don't tell me Wisconsin has a similar permission for badgers!!!

I've never had the muskrat - we live north and west of Detroit, so the muskrat indult doesn't apply to us.

Eating muskrat is not on my bucket list, that's for sure. Especially if it's been swimming in the Detroit River....
