things may get worse for her (but better for the unborn babies she wants to murder).
According to Planned Parenthood of the Heartland President & CEO Jill June what happenned in the 2011 session of the Iowa General Assembly resulted in "the worst legislative session for women in my 25 years at Planned Parenthood." I suspect that is not because of the Pro-life accomplishments this year, there were almost none. But I suspect it is because she sees the writing on the wall. & it says that Iowa is not going to automaticly support Planned Parenthood's culture of death agenda any more.
The major effort this year was an attempt to ban late term abortions in order to keep Leroy Carhart out of Iowa. But thanks to Senate Majority leadr Gronstal, that ban didn't pass. All that did
pass was making it so a woman would undergo an ultrasound 24 hours prior to an abortion procedure. (Her option to see) Also she would receive “informed consent” material to better understand all the options that include adoption, carrying the pregnancy to term & abortion.
That change may be small, but it is a positive step.
What was the big difference this year is that the Governorship & the Iowa House are now controlled by Pro-lifers. The fact that legislation putting limits on abortion readily passed the House proves that. That is what made this a bad year for June. For the past few years Jill June has had the Governor (Culver & Vilsack before him) in her pocket along with the Iowa House under Pat Murphy.
The ban on late term abortions may come up again next year. But unless there is a change in the make up of the Senate due to special elections, it is highly unlikely anything will get passed.
The big question is what will happen in the 2012 elections. Because of the 2010 census, the Senate & House seats have all be redistricted. & because of that all 50 Senate seats are up for grabs instead of the usual 25. If the Republicans can keep control of the House & gain control of the Senate then 2013 may well be Jill June's worst year yet. At that point you can be sure a late term ban will pass & Governor Branstad WILL sign it. That this year portends that possibility is what makes 2011 the worst session in June's mind. But for those of us in the Pro-life movement it is a small glimmer of hope for the future.
