Last October I shared the
story of how Tara Shaver, a sidewalk counselor who used text messaging to prevent a coerced abortion from happenning. Jane (not her real name) who was 17 & a senior in high school. She was being coerced into the abortion by her mother. Neither Jane or the baby's father wanted the abortion. Tara had been contacted by the baby's paternal grandmother to see if she could do something to save her grandchild. At the time Jane was in the waiting room of the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tara was outside the clinic. The baby's grandmother, Gloria, gave Tara Jane's cell phone number. Through a combination of messages & pictures, Tara was able to get her to come out. She spoke with Jane until Jane's father showed up to pick her up.
Tara followed up with Jane to ensure she had to ongoing help & support she needed. On 10 May 2011 Manuel was born. He weighed 7 pounds. The next week Jane graduated from high school.
While the story doesn't say, I suspect that neither Jane's mother or anyone with Planned parenthood was aware of who was texting Jane or why. I say this knowing Planned Parenthood's track record of cooperation with those who coerce a teenaged girl into having an abortion. I am sure they would have tried to put a stop to the texting rather than let Jane make her own mind up & keep the baby.
Tara was a former intern for Operation Rescue. Clearly she was able to learn some valuable lessons during her time there. Lessions she was able to put into use so that Baby Manuel is alive today. I agree wholeheartedly with Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, when he calls both Jane & Sara heroes. Speaking about the situation he said “Coerced abortions are a very real and understated problem in our country. Jane is a hero for having the courage to stand up for her baby even though the deck was stacked against her. We congratulate her on the birth of her precious son, Manuel, and on her graduation.
But Jane could not have done it without Tara’s love and support. She is also a hero too, for thinking ‘outside the box’ and using texting to save Manuel’s life and protect Jane from the emotional trauma of a coerced abortion. Tara took time to follow up with Jane, and make sure she had the help and support she needed. We are very proud of Tara and all she and her husband, Bud, are accomplishing on the pro-life mission field of Albuquerque.”
While this story has a happy ending, it also serves to remind us how many teenage girls are being forced into having an abortion against their will. & how Planned Parenthood has been proven time & time again through undercover investigations to be willing to coperate with those who are making her have the abortion. Additionally, in doing so Planned Parenthood is often aiding & abetting in the cover up of incest or statuatory rape as well. There are many good reasons for Planned Parenthood to be completely cut off from any of our tax money. & this is is one of the prime ones.
