This Isn't About Homophobia, It IS About Hatred of God & Christians

Yesterday I put up a post about how a new law in Illinois was an attack on the Catholic Church & what it stood for in the name of tolerance. I said "This is just the latest example of subtle & not so subtle persecution of Catholics & other Christians who respect the God given right to life in a country that claims to allow free expression of religion." Well, another salvo has just been fired with a bill introduced on 3 May in the US House of Representatives by Democratic California Rep. Pete Stark. He originally introduced it in October of 2009 but it got nowhere.

It is being touted as the means for fixing a supposedly “flawed” system. It would “prohibit discrimination in adoption or foster care placements” based on the “sexual orientation, gender identification, or marital status” of prospective adoptive and foster parents. The bill has the Orwellian title of the “Every Child Deserves a Family Act”.

While using the claim that the legislation addresses the “critical shortage” of stable, safe, and loving homes in the adoption and foster-care system, Stark readily admits the real reason for the bill is to attack those who stand up for the way God intended a family to be, a married mother & father. He said he is doing this because of what he calls the “homophobic opposition that gay people aren’t suitable adoptive parents.”He claims it is a "human rights issue".

Sorry Rep. Stark, but it isn't homophobia, it is, an attempt by you to undermine the 1st amendment right to free exercise of religion in the USA by taking away our God-given right to stand up for what He defines marriage & family as. (Note: this isn't to say that a single parent family is bad. Many single parents do an excellent job. But the ideal is to have 2 parents.)

& it wouldn't mean more children getting adopted, it would mean less of them would get a truly loving & stable home. Recently Lori Windham, Senior Counsel with the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty told EWTN News that the legislation would in fact prevent the huge number of religiously affiliated adoption & foster care organizations in the US from providing services.

The impact of the legislation would be to mean that fewer children will actually get homes. This legislation would prohibit adoption agencies and foster care agencies, including religious adoption agencies and foster care agencies, from providing services in many cases. They would have to choose between following their religious beliefs and shutting down.”

Peter Sprigg, senior fellow for policy studies at the Family Research Council, backs up what Windham said. “It would have the effect of either banning Christian adoption agencies or forbidding them from acting on their faith convictions and their moral convictions in terms of what is in the best interest of a child,” he warned.

Sprigg pointed out that Christian organizations, such as Catholic Charities are among the “most effective adoption agencies” which have an “outstanding record”. Additionally, he said, “unique problems” associated with homosexual couples and non-married couples indicate that these homes are “likely to be less stable than a married husband-and-wife household.”

Sprigg pointed to “overwhelming” evidence supporting the understanding that children are best raised in homes with a father & mother. He added, “I think it’s legitimate to disfavor [unmarried and homosexual couples] or to exclude them altogether.”

How well Catholic Charities does in providing loving homes can be seen by looking at the statistics. For example, in 2009 Catholic Charities completed 3,794 adoptions. They also provided adoption services to 43,982 clients. It provided foster care services for 18,344 children & adolescents. These numbers are taken from the Catholic Charities USA 2009 Annual Survey Final Report.

I can speak from 1st hand experience about how great a job Catholic Charities does. Back in the early 80s they went through Catholic Charities in DBQ. A few years ago their son got married & they are now grandparents. & that is just 1 example.

As I said yesterday, this is part of an ongoing attack to destroy the very foundation on which our Country was created. & in doing so, open the door to a new era of persecution aimed at those who are faithful Christians, especially Catholics.

I repeat agin the call folks, we need to "pray. We must, like Daniel, repent for the sins of our nation. We must ask God for His Mercy. As it says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 "And my people, upon whom my name is called, being converted, shall make supplication to me, and seek out my face, and do penance for their most wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins and will heal their land." If ever there was a verse from the Bible that was a NOW word from God, this is it."
