As I am working on some things the news just broke that Usama (Osama) bin Laden was killed last week in by a U.S. bomb a week ago. According to reports, he was killed in a mansion outside Islamabad, the Pakistani capital as the result of a special ground operation. Apparently the U.S. had been waiting for the results of a DNA test to confirm his identity. I am also sure that the body will be shown as well. The need is there for absolute proof for the Arab world.
Part of me is glad he is no longer out there. But I wish he had been caught live so he could have faced trial for what he did. What I am feeling is not joy. It is more that of relief that he can do no more harm.
What this will mean for the future is, IMHO, somewhat muddled. At this point I am not so sure it will have as much of a real effect as it would have about 7-9 years ago.
The important effect will be mostly be to help heal some of the wounds of those who lost family in the 9-11 attack by bringing them some closure.
I will say that at 1st hearing, President Obama's speech was well done. & it sounds like he handled the whole operation fairly well.
Of course, more will be coming out in the hours & days ahead. But for now, I have to applaud all involved for how it was handled.

It's been too long, but Bin Laden is finally brought to justice. May God have mercy on him.
