Iowa 5th District Congressman
Steve King (R) is calling on his colleagues in the US Congress to help him find out if federal tax dollars are helping to fund Planned Parenthood of the Heartland's telemed abortion scheme through the $11.6 million allocated to the Department of Health & Human Services for Fiscal Year 2010 for its telehealth program. While not underwriting the actual abortions, the funding could be helping to pay for the telemed technology, things like the computers & phone lines. He is currently circulating the letter below (click on to enlarge) asking them to sign on to a letter he will soon send to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
I highly doubt fellow Iowan & my Congressman Bruce Braley (D) will sign on. But I am sure he will get a large number of signers.
It will be interesting to see the response of Sibelius as well as the reaction of PP & the rest of the pro-aborts. Will she respond quickly, try to hem & haw, or obfuscate? Or all of the above? As for PP, 1 of the things that I suspect they will claim is that the technology can be used for other types of telemedicine as well. The only problem, in Iowa it isn't. & probably won't be used by PP for anything but abortions should it expand to other states. So any funding to pay for their equipment for current sites or for expansion elsewhere, likeinto DBQ, would be helping to underwrite abortions. & against current Federal law.
Bravo & Grazie to Rep King for his making sure PP isn't illegally getting any of our taxpayer money. Next up, total defunding of PP.
