It Turns Out The Abortion at Arizona Catholic Hospital Is Only Latest In Parent Corporation Abortion Promotion

Bravo to American Life League for its work in uncovering how deep the abortion mindset runs at Catholic Healthcare West. CHW is the parent corporation that runs St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center where an abortion was performed earlier this year contrary to Catholic teaching.
In a 10 page report released by ALL on Monday it turns out the abortion was in keeping with the CHW's philosophy of bending &/or disobeying Catholic teaching on abortion & birth control.
The report lists the following discoveries:

• CHW has granted money to at least six organizations that promote abortion, birth control and/or homosexual lifestyles.
• CHW helped create the “Healthy San Francisco” health plan, which covers elective abortion.
• At least one CHW member hospital promotes the nation’s largest abortion chain, Planned Parenthood, on its web site, and another lists the provision of contraceptives as a service.
• 12 CHW members (as of 2001) performed tubal ligations.
• 20 members currently refer for vasectomies by staff physicians on their web sites.
• CHW Arizona’s health care plan covers oral contraceptives and diaphragms.
• CHW’s CEO made donations to the Obama campaign and strongly endorsed the USCCB--‐condemned Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
& this was uncovered after only 2 days of research. You can go to the complete CHW Report for all the gory details.
But this isn't really a surprize when you realize that CHW is also a part of the Catholic Health Association that also endorsed ObamaCare. (Not that all Catholic Hospitals that belong agreed with Keehan & the CHA endorsement.) CHW is simply going along with their leadership.
CHW's website mentions Jesus in its mission statement, but only in so far as being "committed to furthering the healing ministry of Jesus". No where else in the mission statement, vision, or values is Jesus mentioned or any mention of being Catholic or doing anything in line or to impliment Catholic teaching on health care. Granted they do mention The Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services as a guide on their ethics page, but only for the Catholic hospitals they own. It also mentions the CHW Statement of Common Values. That statement outlines the values CHW shares with our secular partners. Yes secular partners. & it mentions nothing about abortion, just the shared values. Some of the hospitals mentioned in the report are secular ones, but some are Catholic ones. But the question comes up, if CHW is in charge, why aren't they all operating as Catholic?
Sadly CHW isn't the exception, but symptomatic of many hospitals that used to be truly Catholic but rather than keep Catholic values have become businesses instead. They keep the Catholic name & non-profit status, but little else. I can't imagine that most of the religious who founded them would be pleased to see where these hospitals have gone in opposition to what they were meant to be.
