1st Shakespeare, Now Dickens - baQa' *

In Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Klingon Chancellor Gorkon tells Kirk & the others at the meal "You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon." Well, now it looks like the Klingons have absconded with another English literary icon, Scrooge, or in this case SQuja':

Yup, it is the classic story, only redone to fit Klingon's Warrior Code of Honor world view. So rather than taking place at Christmas it takes place at the Klingon Feast of the Long Night. It is performed in tlhIngan Hol (Klingon). It was 1st performed on Earth in 2007 by Commedia Beauregard at the University of Minnesota Saint Paul Student Center. This year is the 4th year it is being performed in the Twin Cities. A 2nd production in Chicago has been added as well.
"Scrooge has no honor, nor any courage. Can three ghosts help him to become the true warrior he ought to be in time to save Tiny Tim from a horrible fate? Performed in the Original Klingon with English Supertitles, and narrative analysis from The Vulcan Institute of Cultural Anthropology." (from the Commedia Beauregard A Klingon Christmas Carol website)
Over the years I have seen many variations on A Christmas Carol done. Some were straight forward versions for movie or TV. Others, like Rich Little's version or the Black Adder version had a twist or 3 for comedy effect. & I have lost track of the number of TV shows who did a variation of it with 1 of their main characters as the equivalent of Scrooge. I will admit that this is probably the most interesting variation I have come across. & given that it is now in its 4th year, apparently it works.
As tImHom (Tiny Tim, pronounced Teem chome) would say:

(We are Klingons! the equivalent of God Bless us, everyone!)

* Humbug!

    There is also Scrooged starring Bill Murray, which seems to be turning into a "cult classic". Kind of unrelated to this post, but I like "A Christmas Story" w/ Ralphie, starring Darren McGavin.
