Memo From God: Progressive Catholyc Teaching = False Teaching

This is taken from the 12 November 2010 reflection in 1 Bread, 1 Body:
THE CRISIS OF TRUTH
"Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the deceitful one and the antichrist. Look to yourselves that you do not lose what we worked for but may receive a full recompense. Anyone who is so “progressive” as not to remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God; whoever remains in the teaching has the Father and the Son." —2 John: 7-9

Although the church of the USA has in some circles the reputation of being alive, some maintain that in fact the church is mostly dead (see Rv 3:1). If this is true, the Lord's word to us is: "Wake up, and strengthen what remains before it dies" (Rv 3:2). We may lose what we have worked for and what remains of what we have worked for (2 Jn 8) if we in any way share in the evil of deceitful Christians who are so "progressive" that they do not remain rooted in the teaching of Christ (2 Jn 7, 9, 11). We must guard the rich deposit of faith (2 Tm 1:14) and fight hard for the faith (Jude 3); otherwise, we will lose what we have left, and "even the little" we think we have (Lk 8:18).
"Progressive," that is, false, teaching is very destructive. It spreads like the plague and upsets Christians' faith (2 Tm 2:17-18). False teaching eventually creates an intolerance (2 Tm 4:3) and contempt (2 Pt 2:2) for true teaching. Therefore, these false teachers "must be silenced" (Ti 1:11). We can do this by:
1. learning the truth from the Church (see 1 Tm 3:15) and the Bible,
2. teaching the truth,
3. sharply (Ti 1:13), yet gently (2 Tm 2:25), correcting false teachers,
4. staying clear of false teachers (2 Tm 3:5-7) and the influences of secular humanism, and
5. suffering persecution for living and teaching the truth (see Sir 4:28).
When we fight for the truth, we will both spread the faith and keep from losing the faith.
Something tells me that those running the recently ended 2010 Call to Action annual meeting either didn't get the memo or are opting to ignore it. My money is on the latter. Esp since they included such heretics as John Shelby Spong, Episcopal Bishop whose claim to fame is rewriting the Bible to make Jesus into Spong's image & likeness among other attacks on God's word. He talked about "Faithful Prophets", an ironic title given that everything promoted at teh gathering as being prophetic was false prophecy being promoted by false teachers & false prophets. Speaking of false prophets, another 1 of the false prophet all-stars they had was Satan's Blueberry Muffin, Joanie Chittister. (If you remember, last August I posted about how the Penn branch of CtoA officially declared her a false prophet.) Of course, the theme of her address was on being a "false" prophet.
For more about what the 2010 CtoA gathering did to undermine authentic Catholic Teaching & promote false teachings instead, check out LarryD's report on the event: Exclusive! Call-to-Action Annual Meeting Report .
As an interesting aside, another of the speakers was Vishnu Jorge Espinel. I say interesting because of what his subject was, Yoga. Any attempts to criticize the teaching of Yoga at Loras as well as at a "Catholyc" convent among others is met with the claim that it is merely a form of exercise & not the dangerous New Age practice it really is. Well, CtoA let the truth slip out Here is the description of his talk “Be Still and know that I am God'- Yoga and Meditation for the spirit.": (emphasis mine) "'Yoga is a spiritual practice. The yogis observed the close connection that exists between the body, the mind and the spirit and they understood that a healthy spiritual life requires a balance between these three aspects of our being. In our workshops we will explore the power of inner silence. We will use mindful exercises (Asana), breathing techniques (Pranayama) and meditation to bring peace to the mind. We will learn and practice easy and effective techniques that will allow us to deal with the stress and anxiety of everyday life while staying focused and open to the ways of the spirit."
This is what they have to say about the speaker: "Vishnu is an interfaith minister, a chaplain and a passionate advocate of interreligious dialogue. He believes in the power of personal responsibility and in his classes he aims to empower individuals to claim their authority to be mentally, physically and spiritually healthy." (again emphasis mine) Once again, what he is pushing is pure new age.
While I don't think St. John specificly had CtoA in mind, this gang of "progressive Catholycs" is definitely operating in the spirit of the antichrist, aka Satan.
