Hey Webster's Hold the Presses, We Have a New Entry for the Dictionary
Stupaking: Washington's Newest Word
Today a new verb was added to the Washington lexicon: to stupak. Stupaking is the assertion of a deeply-held principle by referring to evidence or promises that are on their face absurd. The origin, of course, comes from Congressman Bart Stupak’s reliance on an unenforceable Executive Order made by the most pro-abortion president in American history, negotiated with a former lobbyist of Planned Parenthood, to ensure that the healthcare bill will in fact be free of government-financed abortions.
The most clear example of stupaking, however, call it mega-stupaking, was performed by President Obama and Nancy Pelosi in combination with the bulk of blue-dog democrats when they used the CBO report to affirm their deeply held belief in fiscal responsibility. There can be no doubt that providing 32 million people with a brand new entitlement will result in the greatest budget reduction ever for the American people.
I don’t want to imply here that stupaking is unique to political life. Just recently, my wife Mary was stupaked by my son Danny. He was allowed out of his obligation to practice piano through his firm commitment to play each of his required songs twice a day until his next lesson. Our house has been eerily quiet since this stupaking.
