More On The Catholic Campaign for Human Development Scandal.

I just posted a column by Matt Abbott on the Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Peace and Justice & its response to the call to boycott the Campaign for Human Development by various Pro-Life Groups that is being spearheaded by Reform the Catholic Campaign for Human Development which I put up a link to under Pro-Life in the right hand column.

As I was reading Matt Abott's column I once again had a feeling of de ja vu. This whole scandal has reminded me of the whole Development and Peace scandal involving the Canadian Council of Catholic Bishops. The CCCB, D&P & its supporters tried similar tactics to silence the criticism that came from the LifeSiteNews investigation into D&P. The problem was, LSN had the proof & in the end that forced the CCCB to start facing up to the truth. I say start as there is still a long way to go yet in the clean up & ongoing oversight will have to continue.

It seems that the CCHD (aka CHD) supporters didn't learn a thing from what happenned up North & are using similar tactics in the hopes of having similar success. It strikes me that a lot of their motivation in lashing out against those who are merely trying to ensure that Catholic doctrine is upheld is the result of the ACORN/CHD scandal last year that forced the CHD to stop funding them. I think they hoped that that would be enough to divert attention from the rest. Instead it has caused a greater attention to be paid. the light of truth is being shone into dark corners that CHD doesn't want brought to light. & they are not happy.

Jeff Miller @ The Curt Jester brought this latest development to my attention in a post he made Friday after Matt Abbott's excellent column came out. (A defense of CCHD) In it Jeff responds to the Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Peace and Justice and the Campaign for Human Development letter. I recommend thaat you follow the link & read his entire commentary. But I need to share the last 2 paragraphs as it reminds me of something I recently wrote in my look at the Sinsinawa Dominicans claims about being Pro-Life (Sinsinawa Dominicans Upholding Catholic Teaching - I Don't Think So!!!!!):

"Once again we get the vague "lies" without pointing to something being said that is factually incorrect. If there are actually lies being told, please inform us of the truth.
I would also like to know why the issues on your web site include the economy, capital punishment, war, housing and other aspects of Catholic social teaching and not a word on the greatest threat of our times of abortion? How in the world can this be left off your list? And please don't tell us - well the Respect Life Office handles that part. At the least include abortion on your list and link it to the Respect Life Office of the diocese. As long as the social justice offices treat the pro-life cause as the relative they don't want to talk about, then don't be surprised when we are dubious of your efforts."

It is clear that those of us who uphold authentic Catholic teaching are not going to take it any more. & we won't be silent. Back in the early 90s about the only voice we heard was that of Mother Angelica sounding the battle cry on EWTN. Since then, due to the growth of the internet, a lot more avenues have openned up making it easier for the facts to get out & for us to speak up. After what happenned at the 1993 World Youth Day in Denver Mother Angelica issued the battle cry that we were fed up & not going to take it any more. 16 years later we continue to cry out the same thing, knowing that what we are doing is the right thing. In doing so, we are doing what the faithful have done over the centuries when other heresies threatened to destroy the Church. We are affirming our loyalty to the Catholic Church, the Pope & the Magesterium. We are fighting to defend our faith. & we are on the winning side.

Please go to the Reform CCHD website & print out the cards. Then use them. & even if your diocese has already taken the collection contact the office in your chancery & let them know that until things change, no more support.
