So, Al, what do you think now? As we commented before, was the recent move by the USCCB too little and too late?

Good question. The USCCB meeting this week might shed some light on it. But as you are probably aware, they cut EWTN out of the coverage by finally finding a way to get arround them, sort of.

They are avoiding the commentary that puts the correct twist on things that EWTN provided, but making it harder for anyone to see the goings on as well.

You may remember that the then NCCB-USCC wasn't too happy that EWTN opted for its own commentary. Now they are free to put their own spin on it. However, I suspect that this won't fly for long & EWTN will be back to live coverage.

That having been said, I really don't expect much clarity out of the meeting either. Part of that is because of the fact that only 50 some Bishops have said anything. Those Bishops, esp those like Tobin who is taking on Kennedy are heading parts of the Church in the right direction. But I still say it is too little to late.

& what media coverage we do see of it will be like how they are covering the battle in DC with Archbishop Wuerl as well as elsewhere & make it sound like they are going against their past history by letting abortion/gay rights etc stand in the way of support for universal health care.

But, the longer the battle goes on, the more people are turning away from what Congress is proposing. So if this goes on long enough, by itself the actions by the USCCB may not be enough, but it may help.

Yes, the EWTN-Bishop thing goes back a long way. Arroyo even mentions it in his book on Mother Angelica, if I recall correctly.

You said: "the actions by the USCCB may not be enough, but it may help."

    A well-reasoned conclusion. I agree.
