The Modern Richard Rich Strikes Again

A couple of days agoI read a post about an interview Doug Kmiec did (Telling Statement) for The Times of Malta (the interviewcan be read here),
The post shared part of that interview: "Even though there were areas of disagreement, Mr Obama pointed out the responsibility of government to provide a family wage, to care for the environment and to provide healthcare for the uninsured."

"When I thought about all these things, I thought 'this is my catechism come to life' because we are called to each of these things in the social teachings of the Church."

The 1st paragraph basicly told me that Kmiec thinks the government should be running everything. Then I read this line in the 2nd paragraph: "'this is my catechism come to life'" After reading that I can say that I have the ultimate proof the Kmiec is recreating the Catholic Church into Obama's image & likeness.
Why do I say that? Simple, no where in either the Cathechism of the Catholic Church or in the Compendium of Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church will you find what Kmiec claims the Catholic Church teaches.
Let's start with the term "family wage". 1st of all, as I read at another blog, what is a family wage? There is no such term used anywhere in Catholic teaching. The Church does talk about a "living wage". & that includes the idea of it being such that 1 income would be sufficient to provide for a family. & even though it may not be PC, that implies that it would normally be the father earning that wage. Also, nowhere does it say that it is the government's responsibility. The Church's teaching lay that on the shoulders of the employer. & even there the Church does put qualifiers on what they pay should or shouldn't be.
Nor do I see anything that says it is the government's responsibility to care for the environment or to be responsible for providing health care for anyone. The Church does tell us we must be good stewards, but it doesn't put the onus on the government to ensure that. Ditto for providing health care. Everyone should have access to basic health care, including the poor. Maybe rather than pushing it on the government some of these "Catholic" hospitals that were started to do just that might remember their roots instead of acting like the huge corporations that they have become.
That aside, as I said, it sure looks like Kmiec is trying to remake the Catholic Church into Obama's socialist image rather than being a faithful Catholic. But then it is clear as well that Richard Rich is Kmiec's patron saint.
