Slavery & Abortion

I was watching 1776 the other day. As I was listenning to the debate between Rutledge & Adams about slavery, I couldn't help but notice how the arguements used for deleting the slavery clause were very similar to the arguements used for keeping abortion legal. Here is part of that debate slightly modified (original words below):
Rutledge: To us Abortion supporters^, abortion~ is our peculiar institution and a cherished way of life.
A few lines later:
Adams: That "little paper there" deals with freedom for Americans!
Rutledge: Oh Really! Mr Adams is now calling fetuses* Americans. Are-they-now?
Adams: They are! They are people and they're here--if there is any requirement, I've never heard of it.
Rutledge: They are here, yes, but they are not people, sir, they are a blob of tissue#.
Jefferson: No sir! They are people who are being treated as a blob of tissue#. I tell you the rights of human nature are deeply wounded by this infamous practice!
Not much difference except for the terms is there? We have a class of people, blacks & the unborn, being treated as less than human.
