ACTION ALERT
SUPERVISORS CUT PLANNED PARENTHOOD FUNDS!
SUPPORT FOR ORANGE COUNTY SUPERVISORS NEEDED NOW.
11 March 2009
Santa Ana – The Orange County, California Board of Supervisors unanimously voted yesterday to stop funding Planned Parenthood’s comprehensive reproductive education program for teens and pre-teens. The Board's chief objection to funding Planned Parenthood is that they also are abortion providers. If you have questions about Planned Parenthood's teenage sex-ed program, visit
http://www.teenwire.com/ and get an eyeful. (See the rest of the story below.)
This move has statewide precedent-setting implications that will not be lost on Planned Parenthood supporters and attorneys. In a past similar fund-cutting move by a neighboring county Board, those Supervisors were inundated by over 5000 adverse e-mails and calls from Planned Parenthood’s network across the nation. Few “Thank you” messages were received by those Supervisors. In the Supervisors' job of being responsive to the public, this significantly weakened their pro-life resolve on future issues. This must not happen here. Your calls and e-mails are not just a matter of courtesy and gratitude, they are essential.
Please, right now, whether you live in or outside of Orange County, commend the Orange County Supervisors listed below. They have stood by their word to support legal protection of the preborn child. Let us stand with them now and remember them and their election campaigns at election time.

In a Board Room packed with Planned Parenthood employees and aficionados, and a lesser number of pro-life/pro-family advocates, the County Board of Supervisors heard testimonials from both sides. Supervisor John Moorlach had precipitated the issue after being confronted by a constituent who claimed the Board was funding Planned Parenthood. Moorlach, who is pro-life as are the other Board members, had never seen Planned Parenthood’s name mentioned in his review of recipients of tobacco settlement funds, which the Board dispenses. Only after his staff poured through several layers of contractor and subcontractor documentation did Planned Parenthood’s name surface. Moorlach chided county management for this incomplete disclosure to the Board, a practice that had been going on before Moorlach became a Supervisor.
Chairwoman Patricia Bates, with laser-like focus and toreador deftness, addressed the issue on a broader scope. She was cautious that the Board not precipitate a lawsuit between Planned Parenthood and the County for either breach of contract or perceived singularly targeting Planned Parenthood. Chairwoman Bates discussed requisite notification prior to withdrawal of funding and asked for a review of the practices of all other recipients of the tobacco funds. The Board then voted to stop funding Planned Parenthood.
During testimonials, a comprehensive 4-page tabloid documenting Planned Parenthood’s record of deception and greed was provided to the Board and County managers. Planned Parenthood had contacted the publisher of this document and requested (and received) certain changes to its title, but none to its content. It is trustworthy and is produced by Please Let Me Live of Yuba City, CA, 530-674-5066.
