A couple of days ago Robert has left a comment on my post "For Kmiec, Denial is More Than a River - It Is Fas...". He said: "I had never heard of Douglas Kmiec until last year when he first gave his support to BHO. Frankly, I haven't seen anything to suggest he was ever pro-life.Kmiec, Biden and Sebelius are completely clueless if they honestly believe Obama is pro-life."
While, I did remember the name, I have to admit that I really didn't see him at the forefront of the Pro-Life battle. As I thought about the events of the last year I began to see Kmiec as the subject of a tragedy. 1 of his own making.
I suspect that Kmiec was never as Pro-Life as he claimed. Instead, in light of his actions last year, I see him as an opportunist going with the wind.
Kmiec saw that Obama looked like the winner & thought he would have a chance for a position in what looked like A "Catholic in Name Only" (CINO) administration. So, he declared his support for Obama as being OK despite Obama's pro-abortion stance. As time went on he became a leading apologist for the Obama campaign. All the while claiming to be pro-life.
While he was welcomed by the Obama campaign, what he failed to realize is the fact he was being used by the campaign, not the insider Kmiec thought he was. Kmiec was played like a Violin to give cover for Pro-choice Catholics to vote for Obama as well as luring over those Catholics on the line.
After the election, they didn't need him any more, so they basically threw him away. They didn't need anyone who appeared EVEN SOMEWHAT pro-life, they wanted CINOs who were wholeheartedly pro-abortion from the get go. Yes, they let him hang on. Which makes him all the more pathetic.
I may be wrong, but I don't think he was ever in serious contention for the Vatican ambassadorship. It was the usual gang of dissidents at America magazine pushing it as a way to make an obscene gesture towards Papa Benedetto for his recent efforts to reign them in. Kmiec, in his delusional state, bought it. But given the Pope's treatment of Pelosi as well as all the Vatican criticism of Obama's wholesale promotion of abortion & embryonic stem cell research, it is even less likely that Kmiec could even function as an ambassador should. Unlike here in the USA among the CINOs, his arguments in defense of Obama wouldn't be bought.
Like I said, from where I stand, Kmiec's story is the stuff tragedy is made of. & like in the ancient Greek plays, Kmiec's own hubris brought it on. He has no one to blame but himself. But rather than take responsibility for his actions, he is lashing out at his critics & trying to place the blame on them. Kmiec is appearing more & more delusional by the day. As the old saying goes: "Whom the gods would destroy, they 1st make mad." Kmiec would be well advised to heed the wisdom contained therein. But, I doubt he will, until it is too late.
