"The laity must learn above all how in the liturgy they are adoring God the Father in spirit and in truth;" (Paragraph 27 of Chapter 1, GENERAL INSTRUCTION OF THE LITURGY OF THE HOURS, 1971)
Memo to those priests & so-called liturgists who promote the Liturgy being about us, you might want to read the above. Or if you have, stop ignoring it.
In plain English, the above means no "clown Masses", no singing of We Have Come to Tell Our Story & other musical compositions of that ilk, & everything else that puts the focus on those of us in the pews rather than where it should be, Jesus.
I also suspect that more of the people in the pews know this inately than most those who put on the shows & try to pass them off as liturgy.

Note: I have been praying the Liturgy of the Hours for about 20 years now. Recently, I decided to go back & completely reread the General Instruction. The context in this part of the instruction focuses on liturgy as a whole, not just the Liturgy of the Hours. So these liturgeists can't use that as an excuse either.
