In last Sunday's edtion of our Archdiocesan newspaper there was an article about the 25th Anniversary of the US Bishops' pastoral letter The Challenge of Peace: God's Promise and Our Response.
What caught my eye was a hilighted comment by retired Auxiliary Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton bemoaning how it has been ignored for the most part, "It hasn't been a part of people's consciences as we had intended it to be."
My thoughts: "Well, DUH!!!!!, What did you expect? You & your buddies spent the last 40 years undermining the teaching authority of the Catholic Church by telling them they could pick & chose what they listened to & obeyed. So why are you surprized that 1 of the results of your training is that the do the very thing that you taught them to do? Why should this be the exception? How can you requires everyone to welcome & accept it when you tell people they can reject the Church's teaching on abortion, homosexuality, etc? You brought this on yourselves!!!!"
Bishop Gumbleton, your hens are coming home to roost!
