Life Imitates Art - The Phone Company Edition

In this case, specifically Qwest.

This afternoon I had to call Qwest about something. They have done away with the push this number recordings with a voice response system. As I was listenning to the voice & responding, something in the back of my mind said, this voice sounds familiar. It didn't dawn on my until after I got done talking to the live person that I realized why. It sounded just like that of the character Pat Harrington Jr. played in The President's Analyst, Arlington Hewes, President of TPC (The Phone Company).

Anyone who has seen the movie will now get my title. For those of you who didn't see the movie & don't mind a SPOILER, read on, otherwise, go see the movie 1st.

OK! If you remember it turns out that Hewes wasn't a real person, he was a robot, "a recording!" as Kropotkin said. Given everything else that has developed in the area of telecommunications, I'd say we are closer to the plot of that movie that we'd like to admit.
