A: The Tri-State Wind Symphony wrapping up its 14th season.
& as is now traditional, they concluded with a program of favorites. This year there was a small twist. Anyone who was at the performance 2 weeks ago (17 July) also got to vote this year. The result was an excellent mix of the pieces from the past 5 performances.
As is also traditional, Brian Hughes ended the performance by talking about the various groups of people in the Symphony. The members ages range from under 14 to, well shall we just say mature. Some members were band students of others. & the Symphony is literally a family affair as husbands, wives, sons, daughters all are members. They closed the performance with Auld Lang Syne. No, Brian Hughes didn't try channeling Guy Lombardo. (He doesn't need to.) It was strictly TSWS.
Mille Grazie! for another enjoyable, if wet, season of good music.
Their 15th season is scheduled to begin, weather permitting, on Thursday, 4 June 2009 at the Eagle Point Park Band Shell. God willing, I plan on being there.
__________
The TSWS was started in 1995 to fill a gap in the DBQ area, no community band. Smaller communities had 1, we didn't. Thanx to the vision of Brian Hughes & Micki Marolf we now have 1 to be proud of. Earlier this year I made the comment "I couldn't help but think that they could hold their own against any professional orchestra." Last week (22 July) I went to the Air National Guard Band of the Midwest at the DBQ Arboretum. As good as they were, I thought that the TSWS could definitely match if not beat them.
