Lets see if you can guess what this song is. It was translated from the English into Latin by Father Thomas Buffer for Rich (Richard Chonak) at
Catholic Light & came to me via Brian Michael Page at
Christus Vincit:
Deus maris et caeli / Plorantes meos audiviHabitans in tenebris / SalvabiturStellas noctis quae feci / Tenebras inlustrabo:Quis portabit meam lucem? / Iis mittam quem?(Antiphona:)Ecce ego / Sumne ille? / Te vocantem nocte audiviIbo, Domine / Te ducente / Gentem tuam corde teneboOK for those of you who may be a little deficient in your Latin the song is
Here I Am Lord. Brian, how about rewriting the music to make it a chant like you did with
Hail Mary/Gentle Woman? (
EVER HEAR OF "HERE I AM, LORD" IN LATIN?)
Meanwhile at his own blog Rich has taken a song by 1 of my favorite bands,
Chicago, & written new lyrics for it based on a classic Christmas carol. The Chicago song,
Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? The carol,
What Child Is This? Here it is:
"Does anybody really know what Child this is?
Does anybody really care about this Child?
If so, I can't imagine who;
but He was born for me and you."
Verse 1:
"As I was walking through the town one day,
a man and woman came to me and asked:
is there an inn where we can stay today?"
I do have 1 small disagreement with him though. He doesn't like the tune, Greensleeves, I do! But I'll simply agree to disagree with him.

Hi! Glad you liked Fr. Buffer's spoof. He wrote that one and a few others like unto it during his seminary days in Rome. I'll post the others as I remember them!

I may just take you up on it for a good laugh.

Salvete omnes. I was happy to see my translation posted on this blog. Just one thing: My first name is Thomas, not James -- my father and brother have title to that first name. Fr. Thomas Buffer.

Fr. Buffer - Thanks for letting me know, as you can see it is now corrected.
