The Summer of Love - 40 Years Ago

Since Labor Day is considered as basically the end of Summer this is a good time to look back to that time 40 yrs ago that came to be known as the Summer of Love. I was only 11 at the time, but I do remember a lot of the music & events of that era.

The nexus of everything was the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco. & the big event was the Monterey International Pop Festival. Hippies, LSD, free love, flower power, etc. For better or worse it defined my generation.

But the heart of the year was, is & will be the music. Here are few of the classics (bands &/or songs) from Monterey that will last long after the garbage that passes for music today is long forgotten:
